Laser Eye Surgery - anyone's experiences?

my mom had lens replacement surgery this summer. she was fine in a day and had virtually no pain. it also lasts forever unlike lasik.

 

they do one eye at a time with a couple of weeks between them.

I had the custom Lasik last July and had NO problems at all. It was the best money I ever spent. I cant believe I waited until 36 to have it done. I have had glasses since I was 15. I thought I would be more scared than I was, but when you go in to have it done everything goes so quickly they dont give you a chance to think about it.

I had Lasik last year in July (2007) - LOVE IT!!!!!!! worth EVERY single penny - but i can't comment on the PRK.

 

i had -5 and -4.75 so i was pretty badly nearsighted although i did not have any astigmatism or anything complex.

I got Lasik done August of 07 and it was the best choice I've made. Well worth the money. I haven't had any problems and I highly recommend it. I wore glasses ever since I was in the 5th grade and after having 2 kids my eyes got worse. Worked well for me.

What is the difference between the 2? I'd love to get my eyes done but I'm so scared. They would have to sedate me to even get me in the chair!

i've been really wanting to get this done (my eye doctor actually suggested it because my eyes are very bad) but i just can't get over the fact that you have to be awake for the surgery. it's so clockwork orange the way they clamp your lids open ...

 

i know several people who have had it done tho, and they all say it was the best thing they ever did for themselves! wish i wasn't such a chicken!

Your eyesight is similar to mine when I had it done about 7 years ago (I was -8.5 and -11.0).

 

It was the best investment I ever made. Super-duper quick recovery - like a nap after the surgery to rest the eyes and then I was back to normal!

 

I am still 20/15, with no surgery touch-ups since the procedure. I had "surgeon-care lasik".

 

Can't say enough good things about it!!!

I'm not sure what PRK is, however I had Lasik done about 3 years ago. I'm one of those "horror stories" I guess...

 

First off, my pupils get H-U-G-E. The doc says he's never seen someone's pupils get so large yet under light they shrink to the size of a pinhole... anyways, they said this particular laser would cover my extra large pupil size.

 

Wellll, apparently not. I still wear glasses from time to time and have a difficult time seeing in low light/night time and under fluorescent lighting. I get halos pretty bad. I also have to wear these drops whenever I go out at night or go to school (with the fluorescent lights) or doc's offices, etc. that make my pupils go down (otherwise it seriously looks like I'm on drugs and it makes me so self-conscious! - not to mention I couldn't drive without them). These drops cost over $100 for a tiny little container (10ml). Very expensive...

 

My doc keeps bugging me to go back in but honestly the surgery freaked me the F out. I take anti-anxiety meds on a regular basis so I think the dinky valium they gave me did NADA and I was really freaking out during the surgery. It's like being up in a spaceship with aliens while they probe your eyes and then paint the lenses back on. I'm sorry, but no one ever said ANYTHING bad before I went in so I thought it would be a breeze and it most certainly was not for me... if you have anxiety issues make sure they give you enough medication to properly calm you down.

 

I'm way too freaked out to go back in and have them corrected.

 

However, I will say this - I would not take back the initial surgery. I used to be so blind (couldn't even see the big "E" on the screening tests) and now I can see MUCH better than that!! And it's a choice whether or not I wear my glasses for the most part.

 

Ok I hope I didn't freak you out too much but I did want to share my experience...

I've heard that the surgery (not sure which type or both) causes night vision problems - not at first but after many years. Lights are all very blurry. One guy I know says it's so bad he probably shouldn't drive at night. Anyone else hear this? This is why I haven't had it done.

i've never heard that but my night vision is already pretty awful LOL
