Ipod Dock station

Thanks for the info!! I was skeptical about spending $200 for the speakers from the resort, I will definintely invest in one of these puppies!

I was thinking of doing the same thing since renting speakers is about 100/hour, yuck. I feel like we already have a lot to carry with us without adding a speaker system to the mix, but spending that much on a RENTAL churns the stomach a bit.

 

Sounds like most people went with Bose? around $400?

 

Anyone know if it's big or hard to carry, and do most resorts have outlets outside or do you use batteries?

the bose portable system can either be plugged in, OR can run on batteries for about 6-8 hours, depending on volume and other factors. the only real flaw of the bose system is that you cannot plug in a mic. not sure if there are newer versions out now that include that feature tho. oh also, connecting your iphone to play music does work, but the sound quality and volume isn't nearly the same as using the ipod. it just wasn't made to work with it.

 

we rented the sound system for the ceremony only, and used our bose plus ipod for the reception.

My resort wants $800 for a 4 hour rental.. that's total BS and I've asked 3 times for her to remove it from the contract since we would bring our own IPOD dock, but she hasn't yet.  I'm afraid to spend the $$ on a dock then still be charged for it on the wedding day.

So for those of you using an ipod docking station - how do you handle the introductions, announcements, first dances, etc.?  Are you designating one of your guests or wedding party to handle or does the hotel wedding coordinator handle?

Ipods are a nice when listening to your music in the office, your car, through a headset but are they good for entertaining at your wedding? Since the advent of the Ipod, I have only heard one bride say that she went to a Utah wedding where there was no Utah DJ but used an ipod  and it was successful. I talk to photographers that attend weddings where Ipods are connected and they say that they don't work for getting guests up on the dance floor. Ipods are nice if you only want background music, however, if you want your specialty items announced such as your cake cutting, bouquet toss, garter toss, first dance, father daughter dance, dollar dance, introduction of the bride and groom, toasts, etc. you may also want a trained DJ/MC with at least 3 years of experience helping you to make your wedding a success. A trained DJ/MC can transition the music for each item of the night as well as make classy announcements making you look like a star on your wedding day. The alternative would be to have your aunt, mother, or even yourself yelling across the room, "It's time to cut the cake"!  How classy is that? A trained DJ in Utah or other cities can be your announcer, coordinator, DJ, party motivator, and lighting technician. I understand that many brides these days are on a tighter budget than usual, especially brides in Utah, where I'm from. You could also rent some professional DJ equipment and have a friend make the announcements for you. Professional DJs with little experience are bad enough, but try using a friend with little or no experience. He will not only make himself look bad but will make you look bad in the process. By time time it's all said and done you will look back at all the hassle and all the money you spent trying to save money and say, "I should have hired a professional DJ". On your wedding day, it's all about making your day perfect. Don't make your wedding day a disaster by trying to do it yourself or by having a friend do it.
