I don't know how it works for people living in the states, but I know for us in Canada Cuba is often the cheapest of all the Carribean/Mexican destinations, with possibly one of the best looking beach. The accommodations are not always as good as other richer countries, and the food can be bland, but to me it's still paradise, only more affordable.

I'll be sure to tell you guys once I get the actual proposal and ring. :)

Another ring less bride here. cheesy.gifAt first he was suppose to go pick out a ring by himself to surprise me with how it looks, but now my mom has offered us to give us my grandma's engagement ring, which I remember loving last time I saw it 4 years ago (I've actually been wearing the wedding band on my right index since that time. I'll give it back to my mom so she can wear it and buy matching wedding bands with my hubby-to-be instead). Though I'm thrilled about getting the ring for sentimental reasons (and because it looks gorgeous too:)), I kinda wish my mom had done that in secret with my FI behind my back instead of telling ME about it. rolleyes.gif

We plan on marry in the spring of 2011, in Varadero Cuba. My FI is almost as much into the planning as me, always talking about it and often looking online for more info/reviews for the resorts we are thinking of (mostly the Iberostars Varadero and Laguna Azul).
I think that's amazing that you'll be able to wear your grandmother's engagement ring!

Not to put a damper on things or make this into a bad spin on anyone's wedding, but yes Cuba is cheaper for us from Canada, however there is one downfall. We picked Cuba initally but changed our minds for one reason. And here is the yucky part of it.....if you get married in Cuba and things dont work out (not saying to wont - bc we all go into this thinking we are going to be with this person forever - I for one speak from experience - got married and then 9 yrs later got divorced) you have to go back to Cuba to get divorced. Unless of course you get legally married here first and then do a symbolic ceremony there - no one will know the difference.

Once I found that out we changed our plans...I cant see anything happening to us in the future, but bc Ihave divorced before I cant say it will never happen again. I just couldnt bare the thought of having to go back there with him to get a divorce....to weird. Just thought I would let you know that tidbit of info.

PLease do not take offence to this post, I am by no means trying to rain on your parade, I just wanted to make you aware of this, bc I was very thankful when I found this info out.
Atleast then you know before going what the legal stipulations are for that country.

Happy planning and Congratulations!

hi ladies!

i don't mean to barge in on your no-ring-yet group, but i just found this forum and wanted to get in the loop with some more 2011 brides!

we have decided on a jan 2011 DW, probably in punta cana.

we originally wanted Turks, but i think it will just be too much money for our guests.

i was leaning towards the Majestic Elegance, but may be swaying over to Dreams PC, as they have a better deal for those with kids.

anyhow, i hope to get to know you ladies as we wait for our big day!

Hey there

I am also going to be a 2011 bride, in the Mayan Riviera. I am 90% decided on the Catalonia Riveria Maya in May 2011.

I haven't done anything yet!! I just moved into a new house with my FI, so now I am starting to go on here more and get more ideas.

I get so distracted though because there is so many threads here to read! LOL

I also really like Moments that Matter photography...looks like I need to get on top of things, you ladies are so organized!

Hahah its hard, I think my girlfriends will think Im Crazy for wanting to plan so early!! Haha I guess I just need to start planning myself some more. With winter coming, I won;t be so busy and I will really want to be thinking about a warm wedding on the beach!!!

Well, for starters we are in a wedding contest, but even if we win, I'm not sure we'll accept the wedding. It's meant to be for a couple who cannot afford a huge lavish $100,000 wedding. However, they expect us to pay $50,000 in taxes!! How is that possible if we're broke?!

Anyways, that was one reason why we may have been getting married locally. But now, even with the idea of not wanting to take the contest winnings, we're thinking of getting married locally only if we can find a place I'm happy with because my family is unable to come due to health reasons (flying) and financial reasons. Plus, we want our family to be there, and if they can't we'll have to pick else where to get married. It's just a wedding, the marriage means more to me. We'll know more at the end of December. But no matter one, if we don't win the contest our wedding date is STILL July 1, 2011!! And either way, I'm still a happy bride. :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
