Okay here's the situation....

I need to send out STD's to our guests. We aren't getting married until March 2010, but I have to get the STD's out now and in about 6 months I need to send the actual invites. Problem is, we are actually doing the justice of the peace before we go (to avoid any problems with the documents) and we are doing the "renewal of vows ceremony" in D.R. I've emailed the wedding planner to confirm a date but she keeps saying that she doesn't have the info for that far ahead right now so I'll have to wait until she gets it....which will be sometime next year. But, I have to get these out now.....so we don't have ANY dates confirmed, not even through a travel agent - absolutely nothing is booked and we can't book our all inclusive until this time next year! How do I do thishuh.gif Do I send out a save-this-potential date.....invite to follow?? Save-this-potential weekhuh.gif

HELP!!

You could ask people to save a week.... since with DW's people don't come down for one day.

It is a tough one, but you could also just send out your date and change it if you need too... things change all the time, we had to change our original date and move up the date a whole month. People didn't mind, it wasn't about asking off for specific dates from work as much as it was saving the time off for the wedding in general.

Hope it helps!

I would wait to send out your STD. Is their any reason you're sending them so early? You'll probably be able to get more info in the New Year when all the new brochures come out. If you can I would wait or send out what week you're hoping for and change it on the actual invites if you have to.

Welcome to the forum! Is there a reason why you have to send the STDs out now? Maybe you can spread the word verbally b/c I'm sure everyone is excited about you getting married! In my opinion, it's better to wait on the STDs until you have the date booked. March 2010 is pretty far away, so you'll have plenty of time to plan and guests to make arrangements when you find out next year.

It seems many people send their STDs at most a year before the wedding. Then have everyone RSVP about 3 months before the wedding. By then, you'll know pretty much who's attending and your numbers will be more accurate.

Check out a few threads dicussing whether or not to use a travel agent. Our agent has been very helpful in answering questions for our guests, and she sends us updates as to who as made a reservation. She also matches rates for the resort rooms. It's working out really well so far! Many of the girls here have used a BDW TA and have been very happy.

Wedding planning is so much fun! If you're going the DIY route, maybe you can find STD or invitation templates and get started on designing those. Then, when you have the date, all you have to is fill that part in and you're ready to print and mail! :)

Congrats and happy planning!

I am a 2010 bride too! Here is what we are doing.

1.) By word of mouth, emails and mail let everyone know the time of year you are looking at, a target date if you have one and a general price range so they can start saving. No one can book airfare this early anyway and that is usually the one that you can't change the date on without fees. wink.gif

2.) Send out STD's about one year before with booking info.

3.) Send out Invites 4-6 months out.

That help? Carla wink.gif

I agree that what Carla said is a good plan. Is there a reason you are in such a rush to get STD's and invites out? I don't think airfare rates are available until a year out from your date, so no one can book anything anyway, right? Especially if the resort is telling you they can't confirm it because they don't have info for those dates yet either... Word of mouth right now might be best.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
