And while he may not mention it, my assumption is that, as any other photographer that's offered a discounted or free wedding, that they're just trying to get their name out there and build up their portfolio!
ditto.. that's exactly what I think..

he's not the first offering a free or almost free package.. the thing is that he lives there so you don't even have to pay traveling fees... so it's great when spending thousands is out of budget..

I asked if he would include a day after session in the package and he said yes.. which is why I considered him.. but I already have a photog booked and I think it's not fair for either of them to book 2 photographers.. but I'm still thinking about it..

The photo below is badly exposed, color balance is way off and it would be impossible to put it in a standard frame without chopping off more of the top guys head, or losing part of the bouquet. Then you would be looking at even more money to get it custom framed. Just a quick critique of one of his images. I am not putting him down, I am just trying to point out that he might be offering a $1 dollar package to build a portfolio.

I agree--- I posted somewhere about his work being somewhere between Aunt Thelma with a disposable and FA wedding photography. But it would do for people with a tight budget...

Maybe it's worth exploring--- If I were just starting out doing wedding photography, I would love to spend the day working on the same job as a seasoned pro. And if I were the seasoned pro, I guess I'd look at it like, well I'm still working the job at the agreed upon price. Not much different than battling family members with point and shoot cameras who get in the way. :)

there has been a lot covered here already and i think two things when i see any kind of free - giveaway - $1 - wedding photography.

#1 - quality! check out the quality of the photography. technically is it solid? how are the "poses"? are they cheesy? do the couples look natural? is this wedding photography you would be comfortable with on your wedding day? is the coverage complete. ask to see an ENTIRE wedding! not just a best ofs :)

#2 - make sure whats included and what the after costs are. get a contract. read it. find out delivery times. etc... all common sense stuff. do be wary of too good to be true offers. you gals are smart!

now this goes for any promo like this - whether promoted here or elsewhere. theres nothing wrong with giving a wedding away or doing it for travel only or for a $1 prints. no photographer can make a living that way though! so most are just doing it to really get the ball rolling on their destination wedding market. a lot will determine that DWs are a lot of extra work and stress they dont need or want and burn out quickly. some will love it and rock the DW world with their amazing work :) i got really lucky and did my first destination wedding in the bahamas on a date i had already planned to be there! so for that one i didnt charge travel but my regular photography rates. there are still a few places id like to add to my portfolio that i would offer a promotion - the rock house in negril - any place in greece - harbour island, bahamas and italy.

as photographers we want everyone to have amazing wedding photography! and we are a little protective of the members here! it breaks my heart everytime i hear someone say - i dont love my wedding pictures. in fact, i just met with a couple yesterday and the bride brought her sister who was terribly disappointed with her own wedding photography. and you know what. if i shoot that wedding you know i will do my best to get some photos of the brides sister and her hubby that they will cherish.

ok ive said enough. i really appreciate that this forum allows us to be here. it has been such a pleasure to be cyber-involved in your wedding planning and to share my own wedding and photography with everyone! its been a blast working with the handful of you that i have already and cant wait for the upcoming weddings of ann, rebecca, elizabeth and (looks like too) katie! oh my i hope i didnt forget anyone! im sure you will let me know if i did. im not downstairs in front of the calendar - haha! but i will be there, i promise :) and ann your wedding is in JUNE!!! i know that! smile03.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
