Please help, stressed bride with a unique problem!

Recommended Posts

Hello ladies!

Sorry if I post this in the wrong spot, I'm new here...

So here is my dilemma, and if anyone here has been in this situation before, maybe you can give me some insight...I hope. :)

My fiance who I have been dating for 8 years finally proposed to me on Aug 19/08, due to a number of scheduling issues, as well as my (selfish I guess?) wants, it was always in my mind and heart that I wanted to marry my fiance in 2009.

So this past week, I was able to secure a wedding date of Feb 19/09 at the Iberostar Paraiso Beach. The Iberostar's policy clearly states that they want their wedding couples to be at the resort at least four working days (not including arrival date and wedding date) to complete blood tests and paper work. We arrive at the resort on Feb 16/09 at 10 p.m. I spoke to my travel agent about this issue and she reassured me that our wedding coordinators at the Iberostar Paraiso Beach (Ms. Palacios and Ms. Ake if any here knows of them) said they would make an exception for us and expidite everything once we're down there.

However, I'm still very anxious about this....what if they decide two working days isn't enough time and tell us "no"? How will I know for sure everything is going to be ok? What if they say no once we get there and I just wasted 20 of my family and friends' time and money, it would be horrible. I guess I should add we're having a civil marriage. My TA also assured me that she would be getting a written confirmation from the wc next week and would pass it my way when she gets it. I just don't know...

Has anyone ever done this or know anyone who has? I need something to calm my paranoid fears. Sorry for the long post, looking forward to some insight though! :)

No real way to change the flight as there aren't any rooms available the week before, sadly! sad.gif

Yeah, I plan to confirm the heck out of this til the bitter end, and probably 5 minutes before we leave on Feb 16/09 lol. I just don't want to spend the next 5 months worrying about it but I'm afraid I will. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it! :)

Good news: I have heard of them making exceptions at resorts before. I guess I don't know where your resort is, exactly, buy I know in some parts of mexico it is legally a 2 or 3 day policy... and the resort says 4 days for their own policy. So you might be able to confirm that.

Bad news: Sometimes in Islands/Mexico their word doesn't always hold up. So continue to confirm.

Either way, don't stress too much. You have your flight so it's done. If it isn't legal for some reason do it when you get back.

And if you are losing sleep over it, get legally married before you go. Im doing that for convenience and a guarantee that everything is in order legally. Not worried about it taking away from my DW either- more like a formality!

It WILL work out!

Thanks Kate, hearing this from you makes me feel better about it already.

Thanks Kat, that thought had crossed my mind too wink.gif I will continue to confirm and if I find out before I leave that it won't work, I'll get married here and have a symbolic ceremony there. If I found out after I get there that it's not ok, FI were thinking and hoping we can have a symbolic ceremony there and get married here when we get home.

Do any of you ladies know for the symbolic ceremonies if there's always a minister on the resort (even when not needed) to perform the ceremony?

Thanks again everyone, this site is awesome and you're all so fabulous and supportive!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
