My sister lives in upstate NY on the Canadian border and she got hit with Ike. They lost power for a few hours, the kids had a delay at school, man that was a pretty powerful storm.

Gosh Erin, sorry you had to deal with that... what a way to spend your birthday.

 

Here in central Ohio there were hundreds of thousands without power, and still about 350,000 without power all due to the high winds we got from Ike and some northern front.

 

Our power went out Sunday around 4pm and got it back Tuesday morning at 5am. Our cable/internet finally came back last night. We had to throw our everything in the freezer. Were able to put some refridgerated items into a cooler with the only ice we had. We were not able to find ice or D batteries anywhere!

 

So glad it's over for us. Feel terrible for those that are still dealing with it.

Yes, I totally understand what you went through ErinB. I live in Houston and our power went out at 8pm BEFORE IKE HAD OFFICIALLY MADE LAND! Our power was just restored yesterday and over 1 million folks still do not have power.

 

As for our house, everything was okay with that just the shrubbery in front of the house has been up-rooted. Our satellite is out but our internet is working. Houston is only about 25% functional. There are limited gas stations open, a shortage on fuel, ice, food, and bread, and a lot of restaurants are still closed due to no power or not receiving any new stock. Most of the major highways have been cleared of debris so things are SLOWLY getting back to normal.

 

My heart and prayers go out to those who are still dealing with this storm as well as those who lost their homes to it. You cannot truly understand the devastation one feels when they cannot live or return to their homes. It's MUCH more than just a building!

I second that!

People have been really angry that the power is out, there's no ice, not a chainsaw or generator to be found in the city, etc.

Everyone is saying that all of the crews were working on RyderCup stuff instead of homes. The Ryder Cup was in a area that never lost power.

It could have been SO much worse. We had minimal damage. Even though some neighbors had to replace a porch, at least they still have a home.

The pictures I've seen of Galveston just break my heart! I was so worried about all of the BDW Texas girls. I'm glad you are ok!

So sorry you all had to deal witht he power outages! We didn't get as much here in Lexington. Our power went off and on all day on Sunday but nothing like you guys had. Hope everyting is better. Let me know if you need anything!
