DREAMS PUERTO VALLARTA "thread"

Recommended Posts

Hey ladies, So I didn't mention this before because I thought it was personal and I thought maybe it would go away, but I have been home since Thursday and have had diahrhea since. So today I checked on Trip Advisor and many recent posts mention food posioning. Today is the first day that it isn't SO horrible. I also thought that maybe it was from my body freaking out since prior to the trip I was eating reallllllly good and avoding alcohol, carbs, and fried foods but once at Dreams I was eating EVERYTHING! There is a posting on Trip advisor of a bride who was married and I think it was 16 out of 22 guests all got food posioning! eek.gif That is horrible! FI on the other hand is totally fine, so who knows!! Just thought I would share this very personal/important piece of info. Note sure what can be done to prevent someone getting food posioning but if the trip advisor reviews continue I would start to worry since obviously no one wants to send their closest friends and family to food posioning camp! Hate to be a downer but when I read that review, and having gone through dozens of toilet paper rolls myself since being home, I thought I should share this! sad.gif total bummer! On a brighter note, I didn't gain any weight from the trip due to all of the bathroom visits! lol

Jamie - I asked my wedding coordinator what is good and she said the calamari in flaky pastry shell is good for an appetizer - also she had a few couples choose the mozarella and veggie plate and said it was good.

She said the most popular main courses were the provenzal chicken, chicken breast breaded with fine herbs, and the fish fillet stuffed with cheese mousse

hope that helps - I'm going crazy havign to pick and not being able to taste first!

Hi everyone! I was married at Dreams PV on May 13th and I haven't done a big review but since this thread is getting more active again I thought I'd chime in a little bit about what everyone's been talking about. We had an amazing time and are so happy we went with Dreams PV!

It's funny about the food - the beef was actually a big hit among most of our guests, at most of the restaurants! So, as usual, it's just a matter of taste. We also really loved the shrimp dishes at all restaurants but didn't fall in love with any of the desserts. They aren't chocolatey enough for me!

We had the calamari appetizer at the reception and while it was really good, it's a bit different than the usual calamari. I think it was because there wasn't very much breading and there were lots of whole mini-squids and I'm used to seeing just parts of the squid. It was pretty funny actually - once my dad figured out what he was eating, he decided that he didn't like it. Before he knew it was squid, he was really liking it.

Be careful if you have any vegetarians attending your reception - one of the dishes they listed as vegetarian is actually some kind of chicken dish. Actually, now that I think of it, a lot of the things they categorized as vegetarian weren't actually vegetarian.

No one we were with had any problems with food poisoning or swine flu or anything else for that matter. One person got sick a couple days after she got home, but if you think about disease onset after exposure, she probably got norovirus from the airplane rather than anything from the resort. I always take those TripAdvisor reviews with a grain of salt since people tend to only post reviews if they have strong feelings one way or the other.

Hopefully I'll be feeling inspired enough to write a "real" review sometime soon. In the meantime, feel to ask me questions! Congratulations everyone! You'll have a great time at Dreams PV.

Thanks for the food info! I'm trying to remind myself it doesn't matter to much, since they can just order room service later if they don't like it! But it is weird to choose an option that we've never tasted.

Another random question...but we are getting married on the beach. I have a general idea of the set up but was wondering when guests can see you walking up? It seems like there isn't anyway to have the kind of entrance like in a church where they open a door and there you are! Will it be a long walk where people are watching me? Or is a portion of it out of view? Hopefully this question makes sense.

Also, we aren't sure what to do when we walk back down the aisle at the end of the ceremony. We'll be taking pictures right then on the beach while guests go to the cocktail hour. Do we walk to the end of the aisle and then stop? Go some place out of view and come back after guests leave? What have people done/what are you planning to do if you are getting married on the beach?

Thanks! All these silly little questions that pop up...

Jamie the area from "shelter" to the beach is not that far at all. If no one else can help with this question, I would ask Rebeca her advice for concealing your presence until that perfect moment! I am sure there is a way that they can accomodate this issue since I am sure many brides have the same concern. Are you wearing flip flops, barefoot, or shoes? While there I wore wedges a few times and found it hard to walk on the grounds attimes. Some of the areas have uneven rock walking areas which I only ever noticed when wearing wedges. Hope that this helps! xoxo

To respond to the question about the beach ceremony:

The beach ceremony that I saw was in front of the Oceana restaurant, way down on one end of the property (the side with the old tower). That's where most people get their photos done since it's really pretty at that end. The guests were all seated facing the ocean and the bride was waiting a ways away, up some stairs sort of in front of the old tower. There was no way her guests saw her coming. I think she had a great arrival.

There is a "pathway" laid on the sand to help with walking, but it's not a smooth surface. It's hard to describe, but it's kind of like a runner made of a bunch of sticks sewn together. So your heels could get caught in the gaps if you're not careful.

The only hitch for her (maybe it didn't bother her, I'm not sure) was that there is only one way to get to Oceana, and it meant that everyone who was going to dinner (including me) walked right behind her wedding and got a good view of the whole thing. They were probably 25 feet away from the restaurant entrance.

But then again, we got married in the gazebo and we had on-lookers too. I didn't notice them at all, but my guests told me later that there were like 10 people watching. I had no idea. I was paying attention to the judge!

Hope this helps!

For those Nov/Dec Dreams PV brides, what time are you having your ceremony start? Rebeca recommended I start at 4pm since sun sets at 5:30pm - this way we can get a hour of photos in before sun sets.

I'm waiting for my proofs for our invites so just trying to straighten everything out. I'm sending my invites out early - the end of this month! that way hopefully it will get people going on their trip!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
