DREAMS PUERTO VALLARTA "thread"

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I just had a general question about tipping... I read a thread on here about it:

http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/76104/how-much-do-we-tip-the-wedding-coordinator

but it says to tip the WC and I remember reading somewhere on this thread that our WC at Dreams do not accept tips, is this true?

To all you past brides can you explain what you did for tipping staff involved in the wedding? Who and how much you tipped?

Thanks!

Kate

Sorry, I should have mentioned that this was discussed in this thread earlier but I wanted to know what recent brides have done as things seem to change all the time.

Past brides said they tipped the following people:

WC (not allowed to tip with any alcohol)
DJ
Photog (some said not to do this though)
Officiant
Bartender
Waiters
Hair/Makeup

Is this what recent brides have done? thanks

Okay Ladies,

I need some ideas... Of course, im a procrastinator... We leave for mexico in 18 days and the pressure is on... I have planned everything to be fairly simple nothing over the top, I got Mishka to make the maraca's from Mishka designs, the wedding colors are Guava(or Coral) and Aqua blue! I want the ceremony to be dressed up a bit, KerriB i like your idea for the paper lanterns in the wedding colors, did those blow away or were they weighed down?

Also wondering if anyone knows any cheap other ideas for ceremony isle decor, or just ceremony decor... something that wont take alot of packing and i dont have to order online- or that i can pickup down there even.

We are doing dinner at the oceana restaurant- wondering if anyone knows if they typically use table cloths and if so what color- if not are they wood tables??

Next Question, Is it improper to not do an itinerary of the night for everyone? i have barley even though of this and totally forgot until now, since we are doing the ceremony at 3 then dinner at oceana and a bonfire at 8-10!

If anyone has ANY idea's let me know.

Thanks ladys for all the help!

WHHHOOO HOOOO! 18 days!!!

The lanterns were just the paper ones. I got them off the internet, but Ikea usually has them, too. They didn't blow around at all. Fatima put them out so I don't know if she put anything in them.

I can't think of anything I saw at the markets or downtown in PV that you could use. I did see a wedding when we were there and they used the large palm fans from the palm trees and made these like little archs down the sides of the isle. It looked really neat. I bet if you ask Fatima, she'd know what I'm describing.

Oceana has dark blue and white table cloths and under neath they are wooden slat tables. There were square and rectangle tables when we were there.

I don't think an itinerary is a bad idea. I would think it would be helpful for everyone and then less questions and no one missing out on anything. IMO.

Also, we got our wedding video back today. It came out great, they did a great job. We only did what came with the package (getting ready, ceremony, dinner) and now I kind of wish we did the whole wedding. But nevertheless, we were impressed and it came out great.

I just thought I would let you know what I did for my bridesmaid's bouquets in December. I felt the same way about spending so much on flowers that we couldn't bring home. We asked around (the workers at the resort) as well as the guy in charge of booking excursions about where the best florist is. I told them of my idea about going to Costco, they of course, were horrified.

I definitely like the idea of supporting a local vendor much better. I the end I went to Rosa's, which is all the way down the Malecon and in a block. I was given directions by the resort. We asked for specific colours and flowers, turquoise ribbon ect. In the end, I was given beautiful bouquets with large bird of paradise, fat green leaves folded around the edge like I had asked for and other brightly colored flowers like lilies. They were put together very well and lasted a long time. We were married on Monday and by Saturday they were still perfect, where as my bouquet from Dreams was falling apart as we were doing pictures that very same day. I loved the way it looked, but the quality was crap as well as I had to put my own ribbon on it.

Each bouquet from Rosa's was $30, but well worth it. We paid $10 to have all the flowers delivered, which also included a giant bag of rose petals for my flower girl and a huge stem of Casablanca lilies. My only disappointment was the lily was to go in my hair, but was not open for the day of the wedding. They did open beautifully for the following day which was the trash the dress shoot.

I would highly recommend Rosa's. Hope this helps!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
