DREAMS PUERTO VALLARTA "thread"

Recommended Posts

kerrib you're the best!  I heard back from Esman about the times and he said the reception was originally quoted for 3 hours.  A 4 hour reception (6:30 - 10:30) is an extra $15 a person.  Ridiculous!!!!  I've been emailing him for weeks, mentioned the 4 hour reception and he only responded that the DJ would be extra.  So, I'll see what I can do.  We're already giving Dreams so much money for our wedding and all of our guests staying there.  Another $800 for an extra hour is out of control.  Has anyone else been quoted this fee???

Ladies,

The WORST thing has just happened to me! I am a June 7th Dreams Bride. As I live in Canada, our flight options are very limited to get to PV at that time of year, and most Canadians use Charter companies to make the trip affordable.

My Travel Agent just called and told me that the AirCanada has CANCELLED our flights! We have 40 people bought and paid for (flights and rooms), and now they just cancel it! There in ONE other company that can get us down there, for $400-$500 extra PER PERSON! And my guests are from all over the country, so it won't work for everyone.

THIS IS A NIGHTMARE! I don't know what I can do? I feel like my wedding was just cancelled on me! Hard to have a wedding if you can't get to it!

:(  I am in complete shock.

Hi Sarah...yes, where do you live in Canada and which travel agency have you gone through? I live in Calgary, Alberta and dealt with Sue at itravel2000 out of Toronto (all via email and telephone)... she was fantastic and very helpful. Let me know if you'd like her personal email and I'll post it. From major airports in Canada there shouldn't be much of a problem getting flights to PV almost year round (ones that I know fly in June are WestJet, CanJet, and Sunwing.... we went with Sunwing as they were the most reasonable for our January 2011 wedding). It will depend however on where you live on what's available (mostly if flying out of smaller airports). Air Canada is usually one of the most expensive of them all.

Hey all - I just came back from having my wedding event at Dreams PV (we did our ceremony back in California, beforehand) and it was perfect.  Having three different planners in the last 6 months (Tania, Samantha and now Esman) made me very nervous - particularly since Samantha had not wanted to draw up a contract and Esman came on board 3 days before we were due to leave for Mexico.  However, everything worked out perfectly.  Esman is absolutely charming and met me every time I called (or dropped into the office, which is just off the lobby).  He also attended the start and finish of my wedding celebration and morning-after brunch, to make sure everything went well.

Re: the wedding celebration (Sat night).  We had it on Oceana Beach, which was actually way more charming than if we'd had it in a restaurant (which is what I thought I wanted).  It helped that Oceana Restaurant was closed that night; I don't know if it would have been weird to have people eating while we were celebrating - although I probably wouldn't have noticed.  We had International Buffet I, which was delicious; drinks were flowing freely; the DJ accepted all our (probably annoying) requests and played my iPod for much of the night; the Chine lamps added a lovely amount of atmosphere and all in all, it was wonderful.  We also had a few speeches and a slideshow (we brought our own VGA connector and iPad to run it).  There were some technical issues with the slideshow, but they were great about working them out and it was fine.

Re: our brunch.  We had an 11am brunch, which was a little late given that the Sat night event ended at 10:30pm (resort requirement).  I would recommend 10am.  They gave us El Patio at no charge, which was lovely.  And we selected the Omelette station, which was delicious.

Thank you Esman, for coordinating an amazing event and a perfect weekend!  Thank you, Dreams, for everything!  We can't wait to come back again!

Thanks for the kind words girls!

I'm in Saskatoon, but have guests flying from Ottawa, Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary and Edmonton. AirCanada had us all meeting in Calgary then on to PV. The only other operator I can find travelling the same dates as we were is WestJet, but they are SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive. I just don't feel comfortable asking my guest to pay extra money! It is like, $300 hundred dollars more per person!

We are thinking of postponing or just cancelling the destination wedding all together. Which is heartbreaking. I mean, I have my dress, I've started tanning!

I will check out other dates, I guess, but I have all favors and keepsakes done with the current date!

I'll keep you guys posted!

Hi Sarah,

Sorry to hear about your struggles, I couldn't even imagine what you must be going through.

Did you get wedding insurance? If you are not overly attached to a June wedding then maybe postpone it into November when all the major travel agencies are flying out there again.

I am in Regina and I understand that we do not have nearly as many options as other cities in Canada for getting down there. We are getting married on January 23, 2012 at Dreams and are going with Sunquest.

I hope everything works out for you, stay strong.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
