DREAMS PUERTO VALLARTA "thread"

Recommended Posts

Thank you. And if you guys can think of any alternatives that are as charming a Dreams (I am not sold on Riu, but my FI thinks it is great - I think it is too big and corporate, if that makes sense), please let me know.

Don't get discouraged, I went through a million dates until suddenly mine became available. Does your wedding have to be Feb 13? You know, if you get married so close to Valentines Day, you get jipped on a V-day gift and an anniversary gift wink.gif

What about something Fri Feb 12 or Mon Feb 15? What about a different weekend? The weather is great until May in PV. You have to specifically ask for certain dates from Rebeca because she won't automatically offer alternative dates. If people are traveling they are probably taking off work/school to go anyways so an extra day on either side of the weekend doesn't make that much of a diff...

IMO: If you decide to go with the Riu chain, go with their Palace resorts. I went with a big group of friends to Riu Santa Fe and it definitely wasn't as nice as the Riu Palace Cabo.

All in all, don't stress too much. You will find the best date and place in time. Just be patient and open minded. Good luck!

Good points, all! Yes, it looks like we will go with Riu Palace Pacifico, but it is in Nuevo Vallarta. No biggie since we do not plan to leave the resort. I just am apprehensive since I have never stayed at this particular resort (though we have stayed at other Rius) and when I did the research, I got a "corporate" feel. Also, I have yet to hear back from Kristin of DD, but I sent feelers to a couple of other planners and they said Riu does not work with outside planners (of course, the said something similar about Dreams, and we know Kristin works with them). Fingers crossed.

just my two cents, agreeing with Autumn, I found that having it on a Friday did not make a difference at all and in some cases was actually better for our guests.

Some of our guests want to go home on Saturday so they have one day home to relax before going back to work, so for us, friday actually was better (just a thought...)

You might also have different reasons for wanting a sat though.

She said for the bonfire, mats, marshmellows, it would be $250, which I think is reasonable. My FI doesn't understand that and thinks it's still expensive considering where we live, we can go make a bonfire on the beach for basically free anytime we want.

Okay so Rebeca wrote me back about the rehearsal dinner deal. Apparently in 2010 it will cost $50 more to do the bonfire since she quoted me $300 for the bonfire (LAME) but I guess it is only $50 more. Then she sent me two attachments in regards to food (plated menu options and buffet options), but said when I had a final number of people she would give me an overall quote. So I don't know if that means the price would go up or down depending on the number of guests I have. But she did say that bar service is included. She just didn't say how long the rehearsal dinner would last and if they would maintain the bonfire or if we would have to throw extra wood on to keep it going.

Needless to say I don't know if my FI's parents will be down with the price, I hope they will though. I don't think it would be any cheaper to go into downtown PV.

Thanks for the info Jessica!! That's great!

Has anyone rcvd an updated nightly events list from Rebeca? I think Lauren posted info on her review, but I wasn't sure if it changes. On the website it lists all the activities such as, circus night, casino night etc,

but does anyone have an updated on? or should I just double check with Rebeca?

I'm going to print the list on the welcome booklet I'm making.

I only know about the Mexcian Fiesta and Salsa nights close to my wedding date. The Mexican Fiesta night will be on Friday, Nov 6th and the Salsa night will be on Tuesday, Nov 3rd. I imagine they would be every Friday and Tuesday night this fall/winter. Sorry I don't know more!

Jess, you know what, I don't really. I have it all in pieces sort of, but I'm not sure when I'll put it together because I don't know how many I need.

But, here is the breakdown for the welcome booklet I copied it from Mandy's Mom (I think that's who it was...?)

Front Cover - cardstock paper from Michaels - really pretty watercolored paper

Inside - includes welcome, itinerary, peso conversion, spanish phrases, wedding puzzle, restuarant guide for the resort w/dress code, and guest's name and relation to bride/groom (that's what I'm thinking so far...)

We are planning on having them small (about 1/4 of a paper) and then punching holes in the upper left corner and then tying rafia through to hold them together. Then people can flip through them almost like flashcards or something.

I might actually have a sample made up soon and then I can post that!

And I should have my welcome bags done soon too (my tags are done and oh so cute, but I'm waiting to post once I get the bag done too)

My mom is making the bag out of fabric from her quilt store. It didn't take much fabric at all and she is just sewing them up and then attaching a ribbon on the back to tie it closed. I'll def post as soon as I have it

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
