DREAMS PUERTO VALLARTA "thread"

Recommended Posts

Well Kathy, Sarah, and Jenn:

I feel like the rug has been completely pulled out from under me. I found out late last night on a PV forum that the "new" dreams tower is now closed for renovations!!!!!!!!shitfan.gif

Apparently they were going to do renovations in phases and for whatever freakin' reason decided to close the entire club tower until further notice. I just can't believe it. I have been booked in the preferred tower with a jacuzzi suite since Feb 08. I read that they have told future guests they could be put up at Barcello which is a mile down the road and not even close in comparison to Dreams (based on reviews I read).

I called my travel agent today and they were completely surprised themselves. The WC at Dreams certainly didn't feel it was necessary to pass this info along to me in her last email either. I emailed her last nite to get info and of course she hasn't responded yet to my panicky email. I am just so pissed. So I don't know what to do. Thankfully I have a short wedding guest list, no more than 20, and about 4 are already staying elsewhere. However I don't understand how they can do this. And can we all be assured we will have a room when we get there. I am not sure how long the hotel has been planning this but they just closed the tower last week. What's even crazier is that you'd think they would want to upgrade the "old" tower, not the new one!!!! That doesn't make any sense!

I'm sure for you guys this won't be affecting you because your weddings are later on down the road, but at least now you know. Say a prayer for me that everything works out. Oh yeah and my travel agent tells me that I can change to another hotel without a penalty or additional payment....I was like hell NO.

Thanks ladies for your support! I've been in touch with my travel agent. She's working on trying to straighten things out and see what "freebies" she can get for us given the fact we're being bumped from a suite room to one not so "sweet". A free wedding package would be nice or even free addons for the wedding like fireworks or mariachi band. We'll see. My fiance also really gave me a pep talk yesterday. He's trying to help and be more proactive with the wedding stuff, so I feel less stressed for the time being.

Well I will be getting married at Dreams in less than 2 months as well! AHHH!! Over the past month I have been trying and trying to get in touch with WC Diana, but of course she has only gotten back to me now (after I sent 3 follow up emails!)

It seems that when Gaby was the WC she told me some things that are not apparently true...ARGH! We are also trying to keep the cost of the wedding down (which is why we are going to Mexico in the first place), and Gaby had said that she would be able to get us a CD player for the ceremony and now Diana is telling me that I have to rent the sound system. Besides that, we have decided to just take our 25 guests to the restaurant in the hotel for our reception dinner (even if there are no reservations) since we are ALL staying there, and then book a dj for 2 hours after. Diana had given me the fee which is fine, but now she is telling me that we cannot book the dj without paying for a private function!!! I don't know how to handle this?

Does anyone have any ideas what we could do after the restaurant dinner (so that we can have our dance)?

Someone was saying that they go to PV often? Should we take our group elsewhere after? Or do you think we should just mingle in the bar after dinner?

My sister told me that I could take her laptop along...so maybe I should purchase some speakers?

I'm sorry this has ended up being a RANT!!! LOL

On the upside, we are going with Fer Juaristi for photography. He is from Monterrey Mexico, so the travel fees for 2 people were only $500. He is awesome! FerJuaristi Photographer, Fotografo en Monterrey, N.L con cobertura nacional e internacional. Destination Wedding Photographer.

BTW, has anyone filled out the judge form? There is a part about occupation and monthly income...why do they need to know this?! I don't think I'm going to put it on the form. What are you ladies doing?

We were hoping to go the CD player (or laptop or iPod with good speakers) and were told that we could not do that as well... I found out that the reason for this is that the speakers that people generally bring do not fare well in the outdoors (they are not loud enough - they may be fine for indoors, but outdoors, where sound travels, its a completely different story)... That may be why they are suggesting that a DJ is important...

As far as the private function part, I am wondering if they are saying that because they need a specific area for the DJ to set up? Not sure...

I know someone had mentioned that there is a bar in the resort (if I recall its downstairs or something) and apparently not all that busy - if that is the case, why not just have your crew go there for the dance?? I am sure that whoever is playing the music there could play a special song for you... Lauren may know more about that - she was married there earlier this year...

We are not having the legal marriage in Mexico so are not bothering with the paperwork... we are going for the spiritual one... sorry can't help you there...

Let us know how things turn out!

Hey Janelle

Sorry to say that I'll be long gone by the time you get married....otherwise I'd crash your wedding, lol. I have signed the judge's forms and yes the info is ridiculous that they ask of. I don't see how it's relevant to getting married legally. But whatever, I was told these forms need to be completed accurately for them to be recognized. With all the other crap going on in the hotel renovation the last thing I need is the ceremony to not go through correctly. And I am not hiring a DJ, bringing an ipod and outdoorspeakers. Noone up to this time has told me I can't do this. At this point in time I don't have kind things to say about the Dreams wedding coordinators. Hopefully they will pull through when it matters most.

Hi Heather,

So, are you having a reception? Or are you just showing up at a restaurant as a group? Where were you planning to play your music afterward?

I think I will just have to PM Lauren and find out what would work out best :)

I think we are both really disappointed right now and I think we need to have a deep breath and do some positive thinking!!! :) It's not the wedding it's the marriage...even though a really nice wedding would be a HUGE bonus!!! At least, that is what I keep telling myself. I have to say that I am so grateful for this forum, otherwise I don't think I would have any hair left!! LOL

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
