DREAMS PUERTO VALLARTA "thread"

Hi ladies!

After three long months of looking at literally dozens of resorts, we've finally settled on Dreams PV for June 2013! I am so ridiculously excited. Before we make it "official" I thought I would do one last double check to see if there was anything I was missing. I already know not to expect too much from the wedding coordinators, but is there any serious "con" that I'm overlooking? So, former or current Dreams PV brides, what would be the one thing you wish you had known before booking?

Thanks!

Before we make it official, I wanted to ask all past and current dreams PV brides what is one thing they wish they had known prior to booking? I already know not to expect too much from the WCs, but is there any other major "con" I'm overlooking? Thanks!

Congrats on your upcoming wedding, so exciting!! Aside from the wedding coordinators, which since I had my wedding there last August she looks like she stepped her game up, we didn't have any major "cons". I wish I had known I could purchase the entire photo CD for $500 with all the photos on it unedited, but the ones I did get were awesome anyway. My husband and I constantly say we can't wait to go back to Dreams. The grounds and the employees were amazing. All of our guests and ourselves had the best time. Do be aware that June is the beginning of their rainy season. We got married during the rainy season and it rained during our reception so we had to move inside. Rain season there means beautiful sunny hot days followed by an evening thunderstorm that clears up when the sun rises. It helped to cool things down. Also, hurricanes can come at that time of year. Just make sure the wedding coordinator has a set plan in place in case of rain many days ahead of your wedding, this is where we messed up. I would still do my entire wedding over again, rainy night and all, it was that good there!!

Hope that helps!

Thanks so much for your advice! We were originally thinking about having the reception on the beach, but changed our mind after reading your post. Thanks again for the heads up.

We made it official as of yesterday- June 21, 2013 will make me a Dreams PV bride!

Hi everyone! I am brand new to these boards and am also having my wedding at Dreams PV next May (5/18/13). I have been reading through these threads the last month off and on and figured I better join in the fun.

I am using Eleane as my wedding coordinator and so far have found her to be very prompt and helpful in her responses. My only issue has been with the DJ so far...I read on here about some of the not so good experiences people had using the Dreams DJ and sent Eleane an email expressing my concern. That was probably my only frustrating email with her because I don't feel that she really addressed my questions (maybe a language barrier?) so I decided to just not take any chances and hire a friend from San Francisco to do it.

Other than that my only questions I've had in my mind lately have been:

1. Hair and makeup - I am a natural girl and don't want to look like a drag queen or that I have heavy caked on makeup. I also don't want my hair to be 'typical weddingish prom hair'...if that makes sense. Anyone have information they can give on the hair and makeup job they do there OR if there are alternative places around to get some trials done at? This part is so important!

2. The wedding officiant. We are doing a symbolic ceremony and having our legal stuff done in the States. I read on the Dreams website that many times the people they have perform the ceremony don't speak English. Can anyone attest to that? If they don't speak English I just feel like having a translator stand there would be distracting and take away from everything. Another alternative may be us asking a friend (who is an ordained minister) to do it, but is this allowed there?

3. And finally, other hotels nearby for guests to stay at if Dreams is too expensive for them. I want to give my guests options but I know, especially since it's in Mexico, that people want to be as close by as possible. Anyone have tips on that?

Thank you!

Hi Kate, congrats!  We got married there in March, so I can help to answer a few questions.  1st, we used DJ Staci (DJ Reventon??) I think?  She did a good job for us!  She can also perform your ceremony and she speaks English...she is American.  We had a legal ceremony performed by a judge and she spoke English....pretty much everyone there does.  2nd, the hair and makeup they did at the salon at Dreams was fantastic!  I also do not wear a lot of makeup and I have freckles so I was nervous about that...I have had my makeup done for other weddings and hated it since I always looked washed out.  Eduardo did my hair and makeup and I loved it!  My whole wedding party was pretty much like me...doesnt wear a lot of makeup and everyone looked beautiful!  Good luck with your planning!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
