The resort itself made a bunch of room mistakes upon arrival, which was ridiculous since we booked in June 2010, and we found that the service was not nearly as good as anywhere else we have stayed in Mexico (in the past 6 years we've traveled to Mexico 6-8 times and have never had any complaints... most of our travels have been to PV as well). This is the first 5 star resort we've stayed at, mostly we've stayed at 4 - 4.5 star places and one 3.5 star and they have all provided much better service and friendlier staff.

Three of my girlfriends had massages outside and they were all by female staff.... not sure what happened with you guys!  Sounds pretty weird, especially the men in the shower area part.

Could you recommend another resort that you found better?  We're planning a honeymoon and could use some ideas!

I've had 2 friends honeymoon at Moon Palace and I've stayed at Sun Palace. I think they are just fabulous if you want to do the Cancun area.

If you are looking for the Cabo area, I hear the Dreams Cabo pool is ah-maze-ing.

I also read wonderful things about Casa Velas in PV.

IMHO I would stay away from the Riu, Be Live and Royal chains. I just haven't been impressed by them... food is meh, service is spotty and too many rules to worry about. Like the Royal PDC won't let you eat by the pool, Be Live Grand Cancun has strange rules about the different levels and drinks, and Riu you have to make restaurant reservations.

That is a concerning review! Everyone else here has had really positive things to say. I'm working with the dazzling details so hopefully that will take care of some issues but the rooms in the old tower sound scary. Anyone else care to comment on the rooms and bathrooms?

Unfortunately the review does not have any details about what went wrong. I mentioned in my review that if you want everything to be exactly detail perfect, the hotel WC is not the person to go to. They are more of a location/food coordinator. Meaning that they will make sure you will have a place to have the wedding and reception and make sure there is some food and drink. If you want the details, you need to hire an outside WC. Since you are already working with DD I highly doubt you will have any problems. DD appears to be pretty amazing.

As for the rooms, the older tower was just a 90's hotel room. They are a lot cheaper than other AI hotel's standard rooms because they haven't been renovated. Half of my party stayed in these rooms and were content. Nothing to write home about, but they had comfy beds, clean baths and ocean views. That was a year ago so maybe something has changed. If I was to do it again, I would really encourage my guests to book the new tower because they are nicer and have a private bar in the lobby (;

Also, to anyone concerned about the old tower, read some reviews on Tripadvisor. I think the majority who stayed in the old tower admit they are older, but very comfortable and clean. Im not too worried about it. I think pretty much all my guests are staying there (we are in the new tower so we could have more space).

I'm with AutumnJo and gowiththeflow ~ Dreams2011 please post some details about what went wrong!

I'm sorry to hear that there were problems and I hope they didn't spoil your day too much.  It sounds like you took the missteps on the hotel's part in stride and handled the situation in the best way possible.

I've really enjoyed working with Louise so far.  She seems really organized and is always quick to respond to my emails - not to mention she actually answers questions when I ask them.

I hope that the mistakes she made were just because she's new and still in the adjustment period.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
