I have a few (random) question for you... I see your wedding is 05/29/2010 and you sent the invitations out in October:
1. Did you specify a RSVP deadline, if so what was it?
2. If you are using a TA/group rate ...Was there a separate deadline to book the travel by?

My problem is... The group rate for the hotel is only good through June 1st and I am not sure if I should make the RSVP deadline also June 1st or a bit later... My wedding is not until 10/09/2010.

Thanks girls!

Allyson, we did have a deadline for both RSVP & booking & we based our rsvp date on the booking deadline (1/5/10). It was set up by the resort/TA and seemed sort of arbitrary to me, but because that deadline was Jan 5, we decided to make our rsvp deadline Jan 1. It was terrible timing with the holidays & everything, but most people responded in time. Well, maybe more like half. Then on 1/2/10 I sent out an email to everyone we hadn't heard from reminding them about the deadline for booking (they didn't have to pay in full by then, just a 1 night deposit).

We sent our STD's pretty early too so that when they did receive the invite they'd already know what they planned on doing. The rsvp date was definitely early, but almost everyone knew right away whether they would be able to come or not so asking them to commit early didn't seem to make a difference.

All that to say, I think having them rsvp & book by June 1 is a good idea. Are you about ready to send out your invites?

Thanks for all the great information.

We received our invitations a couple of weeks ago, but I still have to put them together. I hope to get them out this week.

You made a good point- most people will already know if they are coming by the time they get the invitation...I shouldn't really worry about sending them out too early. (Plus it will give me plenty of time to get my OOT bags ready)

Karen,

I love your first aid kits! They are so cute. Where did you find them?

What else are people putting in OOT bags? Are there any places/websites people have found fun things to put in there without making them too expensive?

Thanks

Tiffaney

So I think I finally decided on the flavor of our wedding cake. I really love tres leches cake BUT I am a little nervous because I don't know what to expect on how good it is at the hotel. I read some reviews on this thread about dessert in general & everyone says that it is not their strong area! Any advice? Just order what I like or play it safe with a white, chocolate cake?

I would take a chance and go with what you like...there's no need to worry. I am sure they are all going to be good. We went to PV last year and really liked the tres leches cake. In fact it was one of our favorite desserts there. Most likely this will be the one we pick.

What about the dinner & cocktail hour.... what is everyone picking?

Tiffany, I actually got the heart template from another bride here & printed them out on shipping labels from Staples. I had to trim them a little to fit but they came out well. The first aid kits themselves were $1 from Target. I think they usually carry them in the travel aisle.

The file is too big to post in its entirety, but I just removed the last 2 hearts & posted it. You can easily copy & paste a heart into the last 2 spots.

I've been looking at dollar stores, but haven't found much there for the OOT bags. The dollar stores around me aren't great. But I've found a lot of the meds & stuff on Amazon. Also bought a yankee candle from the website (they had a sale, each votive was $1). Found Spanish for Dummies at Target. Still need to find sudoku books & aloe, but I'm pretty much done otherwise.

For the cake I think we're just going with vanilla. We haven't totally decided on the menu, but I think we're leaning toward the steak/chicken combo, poblano soup or crab salad and I can't remember what else. Haven't looked at the menu options in a while so we'll have to do that again soon.

Karen ~ all of your stuff looks so great! Amazing job!!!

As for cake we had cheese cake at the bonfire and it was awesome. But definitely not cheesecake that you would get at Cheesecake factory. It was more like a really moist white cake. Everyone said this was their fave. At the wedding we had tres leches and it was also good, not rave worthy, but still delish. I love chocolate cake and I think the Mexican chocolate is good, but different than what most of us are used to so it seems a little bland. Maybe this input will help you decide :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
