Hawaii beach wedding restrictions

That's a good question. When we had our wedding in november, there was a table set up on the beach for putting our stuff on as well as my WC threw petals on the sand right before I "walked" down the aisle. I believe she took all that stuff away though right after we were done. My setup was very basic though. I don't know about more elaborate things like arches and such..

From what I understand, these new rules come into play in August, 2009, meaning after this date, there are no props allowed on a beach for a wedding, regardless of beach permits, etc. HOWEVER, in order to have the props before this date, special permits had to be applied for before November 30. My wedding is July 11, 2009. I already had a beach permit for the wedding but had to scrap that one to apply for a new one that allowed props, like chairs, a circle of flowers, etc. From what I understand the wedding planners are trying to take this issue to court, etc to try and reverse this decision, but I'm not sure what the result of this is just yet, or if any progress has been made. I got married in November. I paid $30 beach license fee for 12 chairs (that no one sat on), my ring on love (flowers in lieu of alter) and primo location on Po'olenalena Beach (Makena/near Kihei). I didn't want anything too elaborate for my 15 min ceremony. There was a grassy knoll next to my reception (Five Palms Restaurant) that I later heard I could have had my ceremony on at no fee. In hindsight, that wouldn't have been too bad, as my wedding flip flops got lost in the chaos. I still have my wedding dress shoes, though.

So Hawaii does not allow structures on the beach. This means on the sand. You can not put up arches or chairs or large tables. You can have however put up a small table and use chairs for elderly or disabled. The website above is the rules.

 

I was glad to discover this before I had made to many plans or spent money on items. The list on this site is pretty specific. Good to know this info!!

I'm getting married at Turtle Bay Resort & they allow you to get married on the beach.

Private beaches/resorts such as Turtle Bay have no restrictions because it is their own property. I am getting married at Paradise Cove and they also have a private beach you could get married on and still have a bamboo arch (chuppah) and chairs. I believe it is only public beaches where you cannot have arches or chairs such as Waimanalo, Lanikai, etc. At least that's what I was told by a wedding coordinator
