Shower Anxiety Anyone?

Our couples wedding shower is fast approaching in about a week and a half. For some reason I have a lot of anxiety over this! I didnâ€t really want a shower in the first place but my family insisted. My FI is not excited to say the least. We are both not the center of attention types blush2.gif. Last weekend I had to finally tell my FI that we are going to be opening gifts in front of everyone. Heâ€s mortified. Has anyone else been nervous for their shower? Do you think itâ€s rude to not open gifts at the shower? Itâ€s going to be a very informal thing, in a park, kids, family, lawn games, etc. It seems like most people open their gifts at the shower and some take them home. I wish I could buck up and deal with this!!! I've heard so many of you super excited about your showers. I want to feel the same way! But every time I think about next Saturday my stomach turns!

I really hate being the center of attention but for some reason i'm excited about my shower. I think because i don't know when it is so i'm more excited trying to figure out when it'll be. I think you should focus on the positive that you and your fi will have each other there. I'd much rather be with Derek so not all the focus is on me.

I am not really nervous about the shower this weekend, but I'm not overly excited. I think that it hasn't really sunk in that it is for me! This is the first of 2 or 3 so I might as well get used to it I guess. I am a Leo, so part of me likes the attention, but over the years I am getting more comfortable taking a back seat to some of the excitement.

I kind of know what you mean..I am SOO not the center of attention type either. This weekend is our Engagement party and I get a little nervous thinking about it, which is silly because its our friends and family who love us.
So just try to remember that these are people who love you guys and they took the time to pick out presents for your Wedding, I think the as a thank you it would be nice if they can see you open them. But that's just my opinion :-)
Whatever you decide to do about the gifts...Just relax. This is a shower in your honor and you should be excited!! Have a great time :-)
P.S. At least you FI has to go through it with you!! Most showers are for women only! ;-)

I just had my shower on Sunday, and we opened all our gifts. At my surprise work shower a few weeks ago I tried to make comments about the gift as I was opening them, but it was a much smaller group and the gifts we got were easy to comment on. At our big shower we had so many gifts to open and people were playing bridal bingo that all they really cared about was what it was! Plus, what do you say about towels and bathroom accesories? I normally don't like being the center of attention, but I was much more relaxed at our family shower probably because I knew about it. The work one was a surprise and threw me off so I was a mess. The only time I got nervous was when some of the cards and gifts got mixed up and we were confused as to who gave what, and then I didn't know what to say with the cards from people that gave money so I just didn't say anything! My BMs were making fun of me later because they were like if it had a gift card you were like oh a Crate & Barrel gift card from so and so and then if it was cash you didn't say anything. They were cracking up!

I say just have fun with it, you will be fine!

I was nervous, I think it's normal.

As for opening your gifts, you definitely need to. Your guests are excited for you to open them and see your reaction. We weren't going to during our couples shower a few weeks ago and people kept on asking us to, so we did. It ended up being lots of fun.

I don't see a couples shower happening for us, since it is hard enough to get Larry to stay at the kids b-day parties for very long. I have never been to a couples shower and honestly, never heard on them until I was on BDW. Most of the guys we know would be there for presents maybe and then run off to watch sports or something.

After the baby showers he had fun going through all the gifts and seeing what we got! That was enough for him.

My MOH is planning another gathering for me, but it is going to be a great time, and I won't be centre of attention really. We are going paintballing, so it will be an exciting time by everyone, and it isn't about me as much and not about opening gifts an stuff! I am excited for that one. It will probably be sometime next month so that anyone who is going to the DW can get rid of any bruises they may have acquired from the activity! LOL

I know exactly how you feel! We just had our 2nd shower with his side of the family and friends. I swear I was shaking. Make one of your best friends come up with and write all the presents down. She kept making me laugh and reminded me when I was going to fast or forgot to open the card. I know this sounds stupid to forget but I hate being put on the spot, I always manage to do something dumb. This whole experience has made me so thankful that I chose a destination wedding. Only the people we really care about are coming! I'm glad this weekend is over!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
