Dollar Dance? Heard of it?

Recommended Posts

This is actually something my FI and I have talked about. We are not doing it at the DW but considering it for the AHR and then donating the money to our charity. My family wants the tradition, I don't really like it so if we pass the money on to someone that really needs it, win/win!

Like many of you have said it is tradition for some families...not for others. We will not be doing it at the DW reception, but at the AHR. Another idea that I have seen is that the groomsmen come in and "kidnap" the bride, then the BM's go around asking for ransom money to get her back. While the brides away she can freshen up or in my aunt's case go have a few drinks! shots.gif Sometimes the both the bride and groom are taken.

Of the weddings I've been to, some had it (and I participated) and some didn't (and I didn't notice or miss it a bit). I guess it just comes down to personal preference. I will most likely not have one, since my mother thinks it's super tacky to ask your guests for more money, since everyone that came to your wedding has already bought a gift for you, but I really like DrTracy's idea of donating the money to a charity.

Yes, I have seen this at filipino weddings. However, they actually pinned the money on the brides dress, then you get to dance with her. I wouldn't want something pinned on my dress, the hat sounds better.

Yeah, I thought it was just a Filipino tradition. It has occurred at almost every wedding I have attended, but since everyone is traveling so far for our wedding, we may not have it. The nice part of it is that you get one on one time with your guests. And the money that you collect is to be used for your honeymoon.

I personally like it but I know a lot of my friends had never heard of it before. I think its a cute fun dance-plus when else are you going to slow dance with your FI's friends, your cousins and other random guests?
