Dollar Dance? Heard of it?

This happens a lot in the midwest although I haven't been to a wedding in the last 3 years that has done it. My FI and I decided that we will not be doing a dollar dance. Just hard to ask folks for money after they spent $$$ to come to our DW.

I had never heard of this until I went to my cousin's wedding last year. I had no plans to do it, but now that the wedding bills are adding up, I just might after all!

LOL! You all had me all excited getting ready to give you directions. It's definitely not what I thought it was. You see in the Caribbean, we have a song called "Dollar Wine". I thought she wanted to know how to do the dance. lol! Well, this is my laugh for the night.

I have never heard of this either! I used to work in a really ritzy catering hall and at Greek weddings the guests would throw money in the air all over while people were dancing but it was for the musicians. At the end of the night they swept it up with a broom. We used to laugh that we wanted to put gum on our shoes or glue and walk over the floor to get some tips... :-p Tip the musicians but not the waiters!!!!!

 

Anyway I thought the Greeks were the only people that did this. I guess b/c the people who had weddings there were very snooty and rich they didn't need to do this, but at the weddings I have been to as a guest they didn't do it either. Maybe it is just a midwestern thing? I cannot believe people got hundreds of dollars that is awesome!

In my culture (I'm polish), it's a tradtion to do the veil/apron dance. You pass down your veil to the MOH (to signify her readiness for marriage) and she ties an apron on you (to signify your readiness for motherhood - they don't wait long do they?). In my mom's days, the apron had a number of babies on it. You were supposed to have that many. I think my mom's had four and I was the only... I wonder if she expects me to finish them...lOl. Then usually a dance with the bride/groom follows am I pretty sure dollars are involved. It's been so long since I've been to a polish wedding.

I have seen this before, only the money was pinned to the bride's dress before people would dance with her. She made out pretty well with some people pinning 100 dollar bills onto her.

I've seen this quite a few times at weddings I've been to in Michigan. Personally, I think it's tacky.

I did one at my first wedding - most people I know did. We didn't at our dw though, and didn't consider it, not sure why - I guess I associate them with more traditional weddings.

That's so funny!

They do them a lot in the east and mid-west, but not in the South. I don't think it's right to do one at a dw b/c your asking people to spend a lot of money to go in the 1st place, and if you're at an ai, who's going to to think of bringing cash to the reception?

I'm from the South and it's tradition here too. Money is pinned on the Bride or Groom for a dance. I remember my cousin have $100 bills all over her gown and veil. (I'm sure that it enhanced their honeymoon.) The dancing has never been raunchy, although comical sometimes.

 

I think we will pass for a DW. The guests have already spent significantly more that if we were married locally. We're not even expecting gifts.
