any updates ladies? I bet all our girls in the area don't have power. This is such a huge storm, it such a huge buildup for the past two weeks that it makes it even more scary.

Martha, I have been keeping you in my prayers and I hope you, hubby, and Noah are all okay! My family must think I am crazy, because we were talking about the hurricane and I keep on saying "I hope Martha is okay!"... I want to know if there is any relief effort, the news keep showing really bad damage and power outages...If anyone knows of anything we can do, please let us know!

I have been watching the coverage all night. I even slept with the tv on.

 

It looks like Beaumont got hit hard and so did Houston. I hope everyone is okay.

martha should be fine. she may not have even gotten any rain. my mom is closer to where the storm hit & they didn't get anything.

 

mike's family is fine. there was a lot of destruction around them, but their house is fine. the houses across the lake from them are very messed up. they had trees fall through the house.

 

we haven't heard from my brother in houston. his power is probably out.

Hopefully everyone is OK. We got the aftermath rain here all day today. I was out in the suburbs today and a lot of roads were flooded and closed and the basement of our building flooded so I can only imagine how bad Houston got hit.

We didn't even get a drop of rain and I don't think the winds got over 10 or 1 mph! What a relief! We watched the storm on the Weather Channel until about 1:30 then went to bed....

My in-laws were told it could take 2-4 weeks before their power was restored. Luckily, they have a second home here, in the town where we live, and can stay here....well, until my FIL has to go back to work.

Almost 2 million people are w/o power and most gas stations have NO gas....they are advising to not use the water or to boil it since there is not much water left on the shelves in the storm.

Downtown Houston is far from Galaveston and a lot of the buildings had their windows blown out.

Most of the area is advising residents to not return and the ones that are there are on curfew.


What I saw earlier there is only 1 death as of now being reported in Galveston...not sure about the surrounding areas.

We were watching the Weather Channel last night and the weather guy got knocked down by the winds...it was crazy. Geraldo Rivera also got knocked down by the waves.

They are estimated $18billion of damage....40 homes in Seaside are completely gone....and most restaurants and a lot of homes in Galveston are gone too.


In all, if there are no more lives lost, I think the property damage is a blessing. Could have been WAY worse.

I haven't heard of any reported deaths in galveston. I had only heard about the 19year old near corpus that fell into the water. but I googled & found this

A woman was killed in her sleep when a tree fell on her home near Pinehurst, Texas, in Montgomery County. A 19-year-old man slipped off a jetty near Corpus Christi and was apparently washed away. Terrebonne Parish coroner senior investigator Gary Alford says a 16-year-old boy drowned in his house in Bayou Dularge, La., when he fell through wooden pallets used as flooring and floodwaters rose. Mr. Alford also said a 57-year-old man died from a broken neck after he was blown over by wind.


I haven't heard from my brother. i hope the house he just bought in spring isn't damaged. my friend that lives in houston near the medical center has water damage in her apartment. I also haven't gotten a detailed report from our family in texas city. i know they are all safe, but I don't know how mucht he town is damaged.

oh, i hadn't heard that. i'm not finding the best information online. i hate being out of touch. i'll start looking on chron.com

I got an update from my mom. my brother's house is fine but they will not have power for about 2 weeks. his neighbor's roof was destroyed. crazy how it happens like that. my brother doesn't have any damage.

Glad to hear that everyone and their families are okay. I have been out of town but wondering about how things were going down there. That is too bad that there had to be any lives lost, but thankfully it wasn't worse. A house can be replaced, a life can not!
