What time was your Welcome Dinner? What else did you do that night?

So I am trying to add the last few details to my invites, which include an invite to the welcome dinner the night before. I've sent Marilu an email asking her what time I can have it - I wasn't sure if there were any restrictions, etc. Of course I haven't heard back from her.

 

I was thinking anywhere from 6:30 to 7:30, and maybe saying that there's a cocktail hour for 45 min. beforehand. I have some people that are getting in that Thurs., so I don't want it to be too early, but I also don't want it to be too late - we all need a good night sleep!

 

For you Dreams PV gals - since I am having my WD here, any site specific knowledge you have on this would be helpful!

 

 

As a follow up question, did you plan anything else for your WD other than the actual dinner? I am thinking a Mariachi band (assuming we don't do one for the wedding, this is another question I have), or fireworks, or other entertainment? I am leaning towards doing nothing - but want to make sure guests have a good time!

Hi Ann! My Welcome Dinner is going to be at 7:00...will probably go till close to 10:00. I have a feeling we may all head out for a night on the town, but no hard & fast plans. I'm not planning anything major because I really just want this event to be a chance for our friends/family to meet eachother & just hang out.

that's what i am thinking - so good to hear you're doing something similar. i want it to be pretty casual, especially since some people (my mother!) will just be getting in that afternoon. and i want people to get to know eachother and hang out - not be as focused on any entertainment. i was thinking of the cigar roller, or something though. i don't know!

That's part of my issue too - most people are getting in on Thursday afternoon - so I don't want them to feel like they have to do anything other than settle into their accomodations, throw something casual on & have a little low-key fun. One thing I am doing, that probably doesn't apply to you, is providing transportation for all of my guests to & from the Welcome Dinner. Again, doing this so people don't have to stress out about finding the restaurant.

hi...just wanted to add...

The restaurant "The Office" on Medano beach has live entertainment on Thursday and Sunday nights (for those of you who are having Wedding on Friday) The show includes dinner and show (marachi's (spelling), fire dancers, and dj afterwards for dancing. If you ever been to the office they have good food and it's on the beach.... You have to make early reservations though.

I'm thinking of doing this for my WD (talked to FMIL and she has a choice now on Ediths, Brasil all you can eat Steakhouse or The Office) She said if the prices are all the same she would rather pay for dinner with entertainment...have to talk to Maye with this....

I think our dinner was at 7 or 7:30 and by the time we all drank, ate, ate some more, and then went back to the hotel to drink some more, the night was perfect. You don't want to have so much fun that you overshadow the wedding day (or, be too hungover to enjoy the wedding day!)

Ann, we're planning to do 7pm. Most of our guests will already have been at the resort for 2 or 3 days, but we figured this would give everyone a chance to get to know eachother a little better before the wedding. Also, my dad doesn't arrive until the day of the welcome dinner and we wanted to be sure it was late enough for them to get in, settled, and relax a little before having to attend an event...

That is exactly why we're doing our welcome dinner on Thursday night & wedding on Sat!

our dinner is at Dreams, where a majority of the guests are staying. so no add'l transportation - which is nice. this was important to us since we'll be off site for most of the following day for the wedding - we didn't want to have to go anywhere the night before. i figure people can come and go as they please, and those that want to call it an early night can, those that want to hang out late can do that as well!

 

i just wasn't sure if i should add things (entertainment) to the WD at all. i am hoping it's not a big deal if i don't! doesn't sound like it is ...

oh, and i think 7pm sounds good too. it's not too early for those arriving that day, and not too late so we're up all night. and i would love to say "come down at 6:15 for cocktails before hand" for those that are interested.
