Is anyone else worried about hurricanes and their DW?

As a future Cuban bride, I am definately concerned... CNN.com says that Varadero has recently evacuated 9000 tourists, but they make no mention of evacuation of the locals. My dear friend Maureen is due to have her first child any day now, and lives in downtown Varadero. I am worried for thier safety.

I am also concerned about the devastation that IKE could cause to the Varadero area, and to our pending wedding.

It has been three years since KATRINA and the city still isn't back to normal....

Just worried, that's all; and praying for our dear Cuban friends.

I am with you Amarillis...the people are really get hit and it is hard to get information about what is going on specifically in the areas.

I am also worried about the resorts that many brides are using to get married in the next few months. I know that resorts usually spring back quite quick but I feel horrible for those brides getting married in Cuba in the next few months...

If anyone has been down there since the Hurricanes let us know what it looks like and what is happening...

I'm a little concerned even though we're not getting married util october 2009

We're heading down the week of the 24th to 31st. It's still technically hurricane season. I'm keeping track of the weather and hoping it's good this October and that this year's weather will be a predicter for next year's weather.

it doesn't really work that way. you can have a huge hurricane this oct & nothing next year. there are charts online that show the stats on hurricanes. I looked at those carefully before I picked my date. June is the start of the season, but there were no instances of hurricanes in the area in june.

season runs june-nov, but their are definitly peak months. you also want to think about being late in hurrcane season or right after it, because it can take a while to recover. the resorts do usually clean up fast as long as it wasn't a huge storm.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
