My heart is breaking as I write this e-mail and I guarantee that it won't be my last. I am officially canceling my mexican wedding. I can not deal with the phone calls, e-mails, texts, fights, tears and not knowing what do do feeling anymore. Since the level was raised to 5 it has given us no reason to believe that we can still count on going anymore. There are too many people concerned and we don't want to do it without the 46 people that have committed to going with us. Pushing is also not an option because of the time lost by being a freelancer due to the wedding and the money would be greater if we wait and do it at another time. I just can't afford to go through the lack of work again and also can't guarantee that we could find a date that would work for everyone again.
Our plan B is to goto Key Largo in the Florida Keys because it would give us a beautiful beach, weather, sunset and ability to put everyone at the same hotel thus creating the weekend environment that we had planned in Mexico, as I have said from the beginning it isn't about the wedding day it is about the whole trip and time spent with everyone which we would lose if we do it here in LA.
I am still going to bring my Mexican Fiesta Koozies and gift bags that say May 15th even though I am now getting married on May 16th and I am still doing my starfish and chair bows and fans and having our friend do our ceremony so I know that I can end up with a very special weekend but just not what I wanted. If I wanted to do it this way I would have from the start.....
That being said I need to find a way to get over the loss and move on with the new plan. I told my Fiance that since we aren't doing Mexico we ARE doing a honeymoon even if its got to be paid on a credit card. We are planning to hit Hawaii for a week which I am hoping will make up for some of the things I lose out on in Mexico.
As I said I will still keep coming on here and checking in because I have gotten used to all of your support as well as the feeling of just getting to vent to people who actually can relate to me so I thank you all for listening and for your continued support.
For those of you who are in a similar situation I hope that you can also find a way to make the best of the situation because though it SUCKS it is still your wedding and its now part of your journey in life, its up to you to make it special and move on from it... thats what I keep telling myself anyway....

I am literally am crying as I type this. I have joined those of you who called off your Mexican weddings. I just finished up changing the entire week from Cozumel to Key West, basically doing in twelve hours what took me six months to set up. Here is my new hotel Key West Hotels & Resorts Gardens Hotel Key West Hotels we have stayed there before. It really is very lovely. We'll get married on Smathers Beach.

To those of you who are going forward with your Mexican weddings I admire your temerity and strength.

So, my next thread will be: FS: 45 mint tins with "Jessica and Paul, May 20, 2009, Cozumel, Mexico" Any takers? crybaby2.gif
Ladies, I've been following this thread for a while now, but due to so much going on have not been able to contribute with much. I just want to say I feel for all of you who have to go through the stress of changing everything because of this pandemic. I quoted the two above because I am getting married in Key West and I want you to know you and your guest will have a wonderful time. I know it must be hard to imagine your dream wedding else where and I don't know what I would do if they shut down the Keys. My heart goes out to all of you.

so i just recieved a lovely (sarcasm) 5am wake up call from a freak'n out guest of mine saying they are closing the borders and canceling all flights to mexico! So after reasearching this at MIND YOU 5am at all the gov. sites and cdc they are only closing businesses/schools/gov. offices until may 6. I DON'T KNOW WHERE PEOPLE GET THERE INFORMATION?!?!?! SERIOUSLY PEOPLE 5 F-ING AM!

On a better note, I just recieved an email from the wedding coordinator at the Iberostar resorts in Riviera maya and she says all is well, no sign of swine flu anywhere in Quintana Roo! Of course, we have had some people cancel and will probably have all of them do it but my fi and I are getting hitched may 16 regardless of what's going down!!! And according to alot of reports and my actual contacts in mexico (RM area) this swine thing seems to be subsiding as in no new cases (it's topping off ladies just keep your figers crossed)!

Hey all May Brides just wanted to check in with everyone and see how you are all doing. Not sure if I posted here but we too had to cancel our wedding that was set for next week.

After waking up to this nightmare 1 week before our wedding and countless hours of talking & crying we are getting married here in FL next Saturday, May 9th. Somewhere on a beach and having a reception in FMIL's backyard.

My AMAZING fiance has been doing all the planning - I said he is my new wedding coordinator, he has called everyone local and has even set us up on a honeymoon to Jamaica during the time we have off from work!! I believe it but I dont believe it!

I was getting so excited to post my planning thread on here but maybe I will still do that after I get back to normal life....whenever that is HAHA

If anyone needs ANYTHING ANYTIME, please let me know :)

Good luck to all my fellow May brides, I hope your weddings and marriages are blessed with LOVE, HEALTH AND HAPPINESS!!

Love

I'm still waiting I have no idea what is going on. One airline is cancelling until the 12th the other isn't!! So my very nice TA (get the sarcasm!) said well we can swap you flights etc but its going to cost you another 3k! I said well what about the deposit for the wedding - his response "nothing to do with us tough"!! wtf lol

So I said well i'll wait if I can't go there i'll go somewhere else lol FI and I have agreed if we can't get married away we'll just bloody do it here at the end of the holiday lol

I feel so bad for all the brides who have cancelled their wedding or had to move it at the last minute. I know all the time and work that goes into planning a destionation wedding. I couldn't even imagine. It seems like I am having a meltdown almost every day over something right now.

We leave Saturday. My wedding is in Panama City Beach, FL next Friday. I haven't had any freaked guests contact us yet about getting on a plane and hopefully nobody will. Right now the weather is depressing me. We have a bbq and beach bonfire planned for our rehearsal party Thursday night. It is showing scattered thunderstorms Thursday and Friday (40% precip). grrrr.....

I am not a May bride but feel terrible for what so many brides are going through, and for being upset about the 40% precip chance I was taught something as a kid that has always stuck with me. Remember if there is 40% chance of rain, that means there is a 60% chance of gorgeous sun!!! It can be so hard but try see the cup as half full :)smile03.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
