Smith's Kauai

OK, Mandy is back but her internet is not working, so I'll post what she told me. She said the gardens are beautiful. (She has photos we can post, but will have to wait until the internet is fixed.) However, she said that unless you have a private luau, she personally wouldn't want to do that for her reception. There are at least 350 people at the luau and all are served through a buffet line. Tables are dismissed to fill their plates one by one, so it could take a while for your party to get through. She said the food was good, but the show was disappointing. Many people they talked to had gone to a luau on Maui and said this one didn't even come close to comparing.

Others in their party went to the luau at the Princeville resort. It was at least $30 more a person. I also don't know if it will be available in February 09 due to renovations.

I was there last August. My FI and I along with my brother and his gf visted the Smith's family luau and Fern Grotto. Apparently it is a hot spot for weddings. As you arrive to the Fern Grotto the Smith family welcome you with some songs and entertainment on the boat. When I went there you were unable to walk into the fern grotto.. you can only see the grotto on a platform and unable to go into the cave. Back in the day people were able to go into the cave, I forget the story behind why it's closed off but no one is allowed in there anymore. On your way out you walk through a path of flowers and pretty cool looking plants! The luau and garden are spectacular. There are peacocks, pigs, chickens and other animals running loose but they won't bother you. You can also see a lot of their indigenous plants in the garden as well. I agree with the above post, you should definately do a private event because there are a lot of people at the luau. The food was good and the buffet line wasn't too long. I have a million pictures if you want to email me at doblauvelt@gmail.com I'll be happy to send them to you.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
