10 Wedding Tips for the Groom

Recommended Posts

Found some tips online for the groom for once :0 hehehe

Be there before the bride! Never, ever be late - and make sure your half of the wedding party are on time too, even the ring bearer. Camp out if you have to.

Even though it's bad luck to see the bride in her dress, donâ€t be ignorant of the colours sheâ€s choosing for the rest of her wedding party. It would be a lovely touch if some of your accessories (cummerbunds, bow ties, kerchiefs, boutonnières) complimented hers. Black is a safe bet, but to coordinate shows thoughtfulness.

Itâ€s the groom's responsibility to pay for the brideâ€s bouquet. However, at the end of the evening the tradition is for her to throw it to her guests to help them follow her up the aisle. A lovely touch might be to surprise her with another bouquet as your new wife at the honeymoon suite.

Consider an alternative to the tuxedo. Traditionally the morning suit was chosen for a daytime wedding, a tuxedo for an evening. For the modern marriage, a well-cut suit can be an alternative to the tux.

At the wedding breakfast – the first meal after the wedding (i.e. usually at the reception), if the wedding guests decide to toast the couple, it is NOT appropriate to join them in the toast – but rather you should acknowledge the toaster gratefully by looking at them and then thanking them after the toast. To join the toast would be to concur with the toaster and shows a lack of humility.

As the groom you will be required to make a speech. A few points to remember: Most importantly, compliment your new spouse and donâ€t be afraid to openly express you affection for her. Then similar praise is due the bridesmaids. Obviously you will thank your parents, the bride's parents and your groomsmen. And if you want to win a few points, make special mention of the bride's mother and how lovely she looks this evening….and donâ€t forget your own mother either.

Obviously “the mates†will be there and all eager to toast your new demise. Remember, this is your wedding night, not your stag, so watch your intake of alcohol. Drunk is not the condition in which to spend your first night of marital bliss.

If you are not leaving immediately on a honeymoon, organize in advance what you are going to do for your first night together and if it is to be a hotel, pick a nice one and enjoy using the room service.

Remember that you are now a couple and what you want is not necessarily the top priority, be thoughtful and attentive to your spouseâ€s needs.

Donâ€t forget to return the rented tux before you depart on your honeymoon as late charges can be exorbitant.

Be there before the bride! Never, ever be late - and make sure your half of the wedding party are on time too, even the ring bearer. Camp out if you have to. Late, you should be happy we made it all all as we were out the night before coming to grips that we would never again be able to play the field. I would imagine that as long as we can utter "I guess" that you should be satisfied.

Great, not only do we buy a soon to wilt bouquet which she gives away, but we have to buy another just to impress her in the honeymoon suite...2 things: 1. ladies, if we haven't impressed you by now, we aren't going to...especially in the suite 2. Guys are a little more sensible in that we would rather buy things that last...ask Andrea, instead of flowers, I get her Coach stuff, forget Chocolates, I get her iPod's and equipment. Flowers die, accessories are cooler.

Consider an alternative to the tuxedo. Traditionally the morning suit was chosen for a daytime wedding, a tuxedo for an evening. For the modern marriage, a well-cut suit can be an alternative to the tux. I agree, that is why I am choosing a modern version of the dominatrix apparel that takes into consideration the temperature of Cabo as well...like the following link:

This will keep me cool but is elegant enough for a wedding...don't you think?

At the wedding breakfast – the first meal after the wedding (i.e. usually at the reception), if the wedding guests decide to toast the couple, it is NOT appropriate to join them in the toast – but rather you should acknowledge the toaster gratefully by looking at them and then thanking them after the toast. To join the toast would be to concur with the toaster and shows a lack of humility. So, what is the standard for breakfast in bed? Forget everyone else, I need to start collecting on some pay backs...like I'll let her leave the room...hahaha...good one. wink.gif

So then starting the conversation off by saying, "Thanks for coming to my funeral..." might not be good?

Obviously “the mates†will be there and all eager to toast your new demise. Remember, this is your wedding night, not your stag, so watch your intake of alcohol. Drunk is not the condition in which to spend your first night of marital bliss. Yeah yeah, its all about what you want...but you seem to forget that we are doing whatever is necessary to avoid jumping on a plane and bolting. I Love Andrea, but her mother is enough to make me run...LOL!!! It isn't Drunk...its liquid courage!!!

If you are not leaving immediately on a honeymoon, organize in advance what you are going to do for your first night together and if it is to be a hotel, pick a nice one and enjoy using the room service. Ist night…Drea = Sleep, Erik = come to a realization of what I just did and silently weep. Drea = sleep, Erik = wonder if its too late to run. Drea = sleep, Erik = realize how much he just paid for all this C#@$. Drea = rudely woken up, Erik = come on baby, lets consummate this marriage!!! Drea = Look that can kill, Erik = sleep.

Remember that you are now a couple and what you want is not necessarily the top priority, be thoughtful and attentive to your spouseâ€s needs. My needs have never changed, and I learned a long time ago that my needs come at a price…new purse, handbag, car, house, etc. ?

Donâ€t forget to return the rented tux before you depart on your honeymoon as late charges can be exorbitant. Strange as it may seem, they wouldnâ€t rent my wedding outfit…I have to buy…you know the one listed above…weird.

Hopefully this will elaborate exactly what I, and most men are thinking as I read these great suggestions….keep them coming, and I will add my thoughts…LOL ?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
