Long post~~~My FI has to have heart surgery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My FI has had a sinus drainage/infection for a few weeks. He finally agreed to go to the doctor (he is terrified of doctor, I mean he is slightly psychotic in his fear). He actually has not been to the doctor in about 15 years (MEN!). We just went to the Clinic at Publix but I thought it would just be a standard sinus infection--- no big deal?!?!?! The took his blood pressure and it was 280/140 (yes that freaking high) plus they told him he had a heart murmur. They said his heart murmur was REALLY loud and he needed to go to Urgent care to get an EKG immediately. So we went to urgent care. The took his BP again and it was 220/180. They said that he was basically in stroke zone and that he had to immediately go to the ER. So we went to the ER. At the ER, they did not say anything about the heart murmur but said that we needed to get his BP under control. It took two injections and a pill but it did finally come down. They discharged us and told us to call the cardioligist first thing in the morning to get an appointment. His appointment was today. They took his blood pressure and it was still high not quite in the 200's but still high. The doctor said that that we would need to do some tests. They did an echogram (spl?) and discovered that he has a very leaky value. I was in the room when they did it and basically his heart does not make the beating sound. It swooshes. They best way I can describe it is the sound if you had a piece of sheet metal and shook it. The doctor said that he will most likely have to have his value replaced not repaired because it is that bad. But before they can to do the heart catheterization he has to go to a kidney specialist because he has kidney damage. They think the kidney damage is due to him having high BP for awhile. But that have to make sure nothing is wrong before we can proceed. After his kidneys are checked out and cleared then he goes in for the heart cath. then we will schedule his surgery.

I am trying not to freak out because he is freaked out himself. It is a 'routine' procedure but he is 31 years old in otherwise good health. He does not smoke, he does not drink much, and he eats somewhat health. When we were at the doctor everyone else was either old or obese. The two ladies that checked us out said "You are too young for this". But this is just another bridge we will have to cross.

I'm so sorry to hear about this! My 35 year old DH recently had a stint put into his main artery and he's the same as your man (no smoking, not overweight), except he isn't afraid of the doctor and went after having chest pains.

At first I thought his blood pressure might be so high because of his phobia but obviously there's much more to it. I'm surprised he didn't have any other symptoms of the high BP like headaches/fainting.

I'm sending good thoughts your way. It's amazing how your heart works around parts that aren't perfect. I'm glad they caught this when they did and I hope he has a speedy recovery. We're here for you to listen and don't always feel like you have to be super strong. You have a right to be just as scared as he is. I'm sure he appreciates your strength but feel free to vent/freak out here!

I cannot even begin to imagine what you are feeling. I am so sorry to hear this. My heart goes out to you!

My dad had valve replacement surgery back in 1997 when he was 44. The surgery went well and he is doing great now (other than being a cancer patient and having had 3 strokes that are not related to the heart surgery).

I will keep the both of you in my prayers...

Wow! Well I hope your FI is better soon. Before you know it, your FI will be as good as new. Stay positive and don't be afraid to ask for help. Sending you lots of good vibes. BTW, Thank God for his sinus problem and for you. He probally wouldn't have seen a doc otherwise, right?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
