Larger busted - sewn in cups? bustier???

Recommended Posts

I just got off the phone making an appointment for alterations. She reminded me to bring my shoes and bra - I said that I was planning on having cups sewn in. She asked what size I am, 32E, and she said that the cups won't give me any support and I really should wear a bra. She said she can sew cups in but not to expect any miracles. So now I don't know what to do!

I tried on a bustier the other day, but it was SOOOO hot. My dress is 'thick' so I'm already going to be dying of heat. I really don't want to wear a bustier but I don't know what to do!

Help! Any other top-heavy girls out there who can give me some advice?!?

First of all.....32E! You are sooooo lucky :)

I was initially going to wear a bustier but when my alteration lady saw my dress she suggested the cups. I'm only a B so it worked out fine. The point is that we were able to slip the cups inside the dress and safety pin them to give an idea of the type of support. If your dress is tight fighting, which most dresses are I think you may be ok. Besides most dresses have several layers of fabrics that also help give support everywhere. You can always get the bustier and if it doesn't work out with the dress return it after the fitting.

My alteration lady suggested I have cups sewn in the dress (i'm not an E, but I usually wear D-DD). But at my fitting, because the dress is tight, I didn't seem to really need it. She suggested that I just leave it as is if I was comfortable. I was very concerned about my bust looking saggy and it did not look too bad. It depends a lot on the dress. My dress doesn't have excessive boning inside, just the standard that most dresses have, and it worked fine for me. The cups added to my size when I tried them on and I didn't want to look bigger than I was.

What ever your most comfortable with! I do agree with you on the bustier, it's way too hot to wear one.

That's funny that your alteration lady suggested them and mine is trying to talk me out of them! I really don't want to wear a bustier.

My dress right now is too big so it's hard to tell. I was looking at pictures we took when I tried on the sample dress and I think it looks fine. The sample dress and 'my' dress were supposed to be the same size but they ordered a size too big (and then said I must have lost weight and that's why it's so big - yeah right, don't you think ALL my clothes would be too big for me then? But anyways....)

It not like I have perky fake boobs so I'm just worried that it won't turn out okay. Right now my dress has a zipper back but I'm changing it to lace up so I thought that would work as a sort-of corset/buster and 'perk' them up a little. The lady said that a corset is just the same as a zipper though.

Hey Amanda;

Finally, someone out there has my exact same problem. I am a 34 DD and I went for my fitting today. The dress is too big and she said I have to wear a bustier. The only other option was to have one made inside the dress.. The one she had in the shop is lace. So it wasn't so bad. I guess the thing for me is once I walk down the aisle and take pics.. IT'S COMING OFF.... So yes it's a little uncomfortable, but we have big bust and must accommodate.

When I had my dress altered, my lady advised to get a strapless bra. The cups would not work for me. Typically I am a D cup, but now that I am pregnant I am an E.

I couldn't get a bustier because I am pregnant and would have been super uncomfortable. And, baby would have been squished. ha!

The strapless bra worked well for me....could this be an option for you?

I have been having trouble with the also. I normally wear a 38 D bra. my dress is a Corset back, but the chest area is way to big on me . Strapless bras seem to do nothing. It's like my chest is too heavy, and they don't hold them up or in anyways! I'm thinking of just telling her to do what she can to make the top smaller and wear nothing under... Bustier's are so uncomfortable, and I have found that there is not enough support on top, anyways for bigger chests.

HAHA.. I'm the complete opposite and I tried to go in with just a strapless and wanted them to add in cups just to finally feel a bit busty.. LOL.. Well once I got my dress and the cups in I was totally off kilter. She went and got my a bustier in a size smaller (A) and OMG... it lifted me and perked me up perfectly (absolutely nooo possability of boob sweat).. Ya I felt a little warm in it but the place felt like a sauna when I walked in.

I know this all sounds silly, but I was a Barely B before I got preggers and then well after a year of nursing when Noah was born... I loved my DD's... now im back down to nothing with no shape at all. Try it out with a strapless like Martha said it might just do the trick.. but keep in mind the elastic band.. my lady told me that's when you get some serious boob sweat and even for me I felt it coming on.

I am seriously dreading this...

I'm a 36 DD maybe bigger. I need to go to a real bra shop that's really good and get seriously sized. Anyway, I HATE bras. I mean I am constantly uncomfortable and I even went to a surgeon just last month to talk about the Big Chop. (FI and I want to try for kids soon, sso I have to wait sad.gif )

Anyway, I felt like my dress was thick enough (it's pretty heavily beaded) that when it's properly fitted it'll be plenty stiff enough to hold the girls up.

Then again, part of me is worried I'm deceiving myself. What if I'm constantly having to readjust?

IMO I would never wear a bustier because I hate bras so much that is just torture. But cups would not give support.

I think that a lace-up back should give more support than a zipper. Maybe your seamstress is losing it? She sounds weird! LOL

Let us know what you decide... :)

i would go the strapless bra route.

i was worried cups would hold up my Cs! Ha! i'm going with a strapless bra because my boobs are more wide than they stick out, if that makes sense. so i want to make sure the girls are in the right place!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
