I have a friend with a real "mountain" type dialect and she says:

Oh I spilled paint on my paints. (pants)

I burnt the toast and now its rernt (ruined - rhymes with burnt)

We planted flairs in the garden. (flairs = flowers)

Not everyone, but lots of people use those words!

We don't pronounce the letter h at the beginning of words, most words automatically have an added s at the end, and there are no g's at the end of anything lol Just look on google for newfie slang and you'll see what I mean cheesy.gif
HAHA I've lived in Newfoundland my entire life and I've NEVER heard of a yaffle or a chummyjigger. Funny! I do pronounce all my "h"s and I don't add extra "s"s but you are correct, a lot of Newfoundlanders do speak that way! Good ol' Newfanese!!!

Nice to see another Newfoundlander on the forum!

It's really funny, because I moved from the Port-aux-Basques area to St. John's about five years ago, and the dialects are SO different from one side of the island to the other, it's hilarious! lol Like back home, everyone says "nuttin", but down here it's "nudding" with an emphasis on the "g", I picked up on it one summer while I was in Heart's Delight visiting with family, and when I went home I was made fun of SO much because I said "What are ya at?" and "Nudding" lol And the Mount Pearl/Townie accent, it CRACKS me up! Loves it!

okay here are some more. I grew up near the coal region of PA and here are some things I picked up there. People sometimes say that they are going to "ret up" after dinner instead of clear the table. A lot of us have grandmothers that are Mimi (pronounced Mim me) or Mam Mam. And finally, we call farts "boofers" not sure about the spelling but that is it.

I went to elementary school and someone said, "who farted," i had no idea what that meant, i thought that was a curse word!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
