Just got engaged and can't figure out where to get married...

Hi everyone,

My name is Jennie Lewis and I live in Durham, NC. I just got engaged last weekend and now we are trying to figure out where in the heck to have our wedding. We always knew we would have a "beachy" destination wedding but now we are struggling to figure out where. We are open to all ideas but are thinking that it will be an all-inclusive resort that is easy and nice. I want a very laid back wedding, no shoes, no formal dress, no more than 4 pieces of silverware and 2 glasses on the table :-)...no just kidding! Anyway, I've done a little research and I think Paradisus and Dreams look nice but I just don't know if I'm looking at all the right places.

Right now we are thinking somewhere in Mexico, probably in Cancun, play del carmen, tulum, etc... or the Caribbean, since we live pretty close to those areas and more people would be willing to fly there instead of Bali or Fiji. :-)

We don't have a date set or location and are pretty open on the budget right now b/c we're paying for it and we have no idea how much a wedding would cost us. Feel free to recommend places if you like. I'm also clueless on travel agencies that specalize in destination weddings. We will probably have around 40-50 people attend and we want to make sure we get the BEST deal on travel.

anyway, thanks for listening to me babel on...and I appreciate any guidance you guys can offer. :-)

Thanks,

Overwhelmed bride :-) (wow, that was fun to be able to type that)wow.gifcheer2.gif

PUERTO VALLARTA... If you are having that small of a wedding you should go with a private villa check out Quinta del Mar, Casa Kalista, Villa Verde or Casa Cresencia Puerto Vallarta Villa Rentals, Puerto Vallarta Vacation Villas, Mexico Honeymoons, Luxury Mexico Villa Rental in Puerto Vallarta Jennifer Sullivan who owns the company is wonderful to work with. If you don't like those villas I could send you contact info on the one where I am getting married.

You could really keep it simple and plan it yourself with a little help from the property managers. Or you could go all out and contact Kristin at The Dazzling Details Puerto Vallarta Wedding Coordinator - Wedding in Puerto Vallarta - The Dazzling Details; check out her site she does amazing work here is her blog The Dazzling Details: Beth and Jason - Casa Las Palapas.

For 50 people you could have a blow our mind wedding for under $15K easily. Or go with a resort and do it for under $10K, it just won't be designed to your personality a bit more program selected though.

We are having our guests stay at the Dreams Resort for $108 a night in May and airfare will run about $400 a person so for 4 nights all inclusive plus air $800 not bad for a 5 day vacation.

Tulum looks amazing too.... Best of luck. Let us know if you need help or vendor information.

Hi! Congrats! I too am a North Carolinian. I would recommend doing some research about different destinations before going to talk to a TA. I went to the bookstore a couple afternoons and would read travel magazines and wedding planning books specific to DW. That's how I narrowed down my options before talking to the travel agent. Also consider the time of yr you are going. The high season will obviously be more costly for hotels and airfare. In PV Mexico for instance, high season starts end of November and I think runs into APril. However the rainy season(and low season) runs from June to October. Also consider the legalities of getting married in different countries...if you are not doing a civil ceremony before you take off. Hope this helps some. Feel free to ask questions.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
