Those look horrible...especially in the pictures ...I mean ...you come to get marry in the Caribbean and you have those sort of bags there (Commercial port style) ...personally I dont like at all , so for this reason that when I choose a beach for my clients , I AVOID all those beaches they have sand bags ...so I suggest you to choose the right choice!! Congratulation!!!

I think they are absolutely horrible but to each their own. I made special care last year researching resorts that don't have them. Honestly, I think they are ALL gone. Check Trip Advisor for the most recent shots of the beaches, but I am pretty sure you will find that no resorts have these monstrosities anymore.

Cool - I wasn't sure as this was an old thread - I definitely feel better about it. Thanks for all the insight ladies. And when we go down in May to check out resorts we'll make sure we check out the beach quality.

If you have a skilled photographer these will not be seen in the photos. Don't worry .

The GBP Akumal still has them. I was there for NYE this year and we're getting married there this month. They didn't both us at all. People were playing on them and having a great time. They also made the water from the beach to them lots more family friendly! To each his own I guess!

Agreed with jeff. As far as photos go, if you hire a good photographer you won't have to worry about them in photos.

I was worried about the same thing. I was looking at the El dorado and all the wedding pics they show online or with TA have those in the back ground...

I stayed at the Royal Hideaway in the Riviera Maya, wonderful resort but the sand bags really looked terrible and with the waves pounding against them made the water unswimable. But the resort had a great pool so that worked for me :)

Yeah - We're not worried about them being in pictures at all as we're not getting married at the resort. My concern was just more about the ability to have fun in the water by the shore without having massive obstacles in the way. Can't imagine if you were body boarding and you hit one those it would feel too good. Either way we'll see the second weekend in May when we take our site visit.

                    Thanks!
