Anyone worried about the large sand bags on the beach?

I've been doing my research for resorts in RM and Cancun and all I keep seeing everywhere are theses gigantic sand bags in the water that look like beached whales. I'm a little worried about how they make the resort look. Has anyone seen then in person? Are they as terrible as they seem in pictures? Did guests have any comments about them? Does anyone know if they're all year round or only during hurricane season?

We went to the Riu Playacar in July...and there are sandbags in the water but they don't make the resort look horrible and people were enjoying them by diving off of them or laying out on them. Here's a couple of pics of them.

people have different opinons in these. I wouldn't mind them except I wouldn't want them in my wedding pictures! Unless they are everyone, it's probably possible to avoid them for pictures.

 

Not all resorts have these. They are there year round, not a temporary thing.

I witnessed them in the Mayan Riviera. Each resort has a different setup it seems but all the same beached whale idea. It seemed kind of weird at first but people were tanning on them, relaxing on them and it doesn't really become an issue. If they ended up in your photos they for sure could be photoshopped out.

 

What I noticed was worse were the big pipes pumping sand from deeper in the water to the shore. As well because there were workers constantly adjusting them. Apparently they have to do this or the beach would eventually recede all together.

 

I probably have a few pictures at home, I will check and see if that stuff ended up in any, but in all honesty it won't curb your enjoyment of the beach, if you don't want it in pictures you may just have to take shots from a different angle or have them digitally removed. It is amazing what photoshop can do! (Even make it a sunny day when it is cloudy!)

We originally planned to get married in Playa, but moved further south to the Grand Palladium Resort due to the sandbags. I don't think it is a big deal, I just prefered not to be at a resort that had them. A lot of the beaches have to control the errosion. The Grand Palladium is set in a bay, so the errosion is not a problem.

I was also worried about this. We want our guests to be able to swim in the ocean and body board etc.. What are the purpose of these? To prevent the surf from eroding the beach? Do all resorts have these? Part of the fun of swimming in the ocean is being able to play in the waves.

The resort I got married at had these. It helped make the beach nice and large and beautiful. But it also made for great fun! My guests played on those things non stop. The waves crash over them and it was a blast. You can also go out further than them and play in the waves that way.

I don't think these will prevent anybody from swimming or enjoying the beach. They will be a very minor inconvenience at most.

I was in Cancun in January... the beaches were gorgeous!! They just got done with all the "construction" they were doing!
