cup cakes instead of cake?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I have been researching the idea of doing cup cakes instead of cake, and having them put into individual cake boxes with our logo on the box with ribbon. Then they are going to be set as place cards on each plate and used as a wedding "favor".

Nothing i do is traditional if you can't already tell!

Do you think that this is a good idea?? I just figured out that they are getting wonderful OOT bags, and people are going to be partying anyway...then this way, they can take it back to their room and eat it when they want!

Now, I"m just trying to research cupcake ideas...

I found these cupcake boxes at michaels yesterday(they are actallly online as well) They are bright pink stripes.... with cupcake paper to match. Just trying to figure out if I should do "jumbo" size or will a professional standard size cupcake look look right.

Help!

Leigh, I think that's an excellent idea! Not everyone remembers to save room for dessert (even if it is wedding cake!), putting it in a small box is SUCH a neat idea. I might have to "borrow" that idea! The only thing is that if you have children at the wedding, they might dig in right away - not sure if thats something that might bother you (some ppl like things done in a certain order!). That's the only "downside" I can think of. Awesome idea!

We are also doing a cupcake tower and dessert bar. I ordered 100 cupcakes and am doing 4 different types (25 of each). Emeline at the Hilton has sourced them out for me for a very good rate ($4/cupcake? plus $135 for delivery and cake stand rental). Then we will also have tres leches cake and fruit cocktail and some sort of custard which comes with our buffet menu.

I like the idea of putting the cupcakes in boxes! But there are two things to consider:

1. The time it will take (on your wedding day since you want them to be fresh) to put them in the boxes. If you're not having a lot of people then this will be easy - but if you're having 50+ then it may "eat" up a lot of your day.

2. No "cutting" of the cake if you give these out ahead of time. Though now that I think about it you guys could always just cut one cupcake to be cute!

I am ALL about the cupcake idea! I love cupcakes but for some reason feel only neutral about regular cake... this seems to be a common thing in the people I know.

Will Dreams or the bakery box them for you if you send the boxes and ribbon ahead of time? That would be a lot of work off your back!

Thanks for all of your input! I haven't gotten as far as talking to the bakery or the WC yet....The resort seems pretty easy to work with, but I also have a few VERY good friends that would definately help out with boxing them if the resort or the bakery wont.(or if they want to charge an arm and a leg to doit!) Yeah, we are probably the un-traditional couple when it comes to this wedding! I just know that our party is much to playful to be eating cake after dinner!
I'm gonna try to mail the boxes to whom ever I decide to use for the cupcakes....I will let you know my final decision!
thanks again!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
