reggae band - Montego Bay

Recommended Posts

Hi..i thought i could take a break after finally picking a place to have the wedding, but apparently there are a lot of other things to do! One of which is finding some music, we're hoping to find a reggae band for the reception and maybe switch it up with and IPOD or DJ as well. Any suggestions for a reggae band would be much appreciated!

Thanks

No rest for the weary! It's one thing after another with all this wedding planning. We too are getting married in Montego Bay (Feb 7, 2009). I've heard of the "Fab Five" but haven't found much imformation on them. I'm in the process of hiring a wedding planner in MoBay, so once I find out what the options are I'll pass them along. We're looking for Steel Pan and a Reggae Band. If you find anything, please let me know & I'll do the same.

Best of luck!

You should check with the resort and see if they have someone they recommend. I know our resort and several of the others use "regulars". You should also check the outside vendor policy.

We had the option of the Mento Band - a traditional folk music band or a steel drum band. Prices ranged from $150 an hour for the mento to $300-$650 for the steel drums. You might get better rates going through the hotel as well.

We're not getting married in a resort, we're getting married in a villa. So our vendor options are wide open. I'm hoping to have several recommendations from our wedding planner once we get to that stage.

  • 3 weeks later...

We're using Chokey Taylor, who our hotel recommended. They are very pricey (more than our photographer!) but worth it, in my opinion. They gave me their playlist and its a wide mix of reggae and various US hits. They also have some stuff on itunes which lets you hear them, at the very least. Let me know if you want their contact info...

I am also getting married in Montego Bay and am looking for a Reggae band my resort recommended the below I don't know much about them but where I do I will comment

Fab Five -

Byron Lee Band - I bought the CD in Jamaica this is supposed to be a famous band there I honestly wasn't too impressed they have a website but I can't find it right now

Bare essentials-

Pace band - YouTube - PACE @ work PACE @ play - The refered this band because I wanted a band like soul to soul but with a woman singer as well

the20band - my resort said they use this band a lot and everyone loves them but then she refered the Pace band instead so I have no clue what that means

Soul to Soul- I saw them when I was in Jamaica doing a sight trip I LOVED them it was a 5/6 guy singers and a band they were animated and played local music and American classics they put on a great show but they do not have a female singer and I really wanted one

I also heard when I was in Jamaica well at least in MB 1 guy owns like all bands that the resorts use like a little mob or monopoly weird right I don't know how true that is good luck and let all of us MB brides keep this thread going in case we find new bands, websitse, cds, see in person, etc so we can all have great entertainment and the more info the better choice we can make

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
