Thanks!! I'll never relax again. The last one was in August 07. I'm loving my natural hair and being a 'natural hair advocate' lol. (i'm not one of those holier than thou naturals who feel that every black woman should go/be natural though) I just LOVE natural haircheer2.gif

Wow 5 years au naturale go you!!! Did you transition or do a big chop?

I'll definitely urge against my daughter getting one, but I feel like I'll be her primary role model and I'd hope she'd want to follow my lead in that respect. If she wanted one, I'd let her make that decision in her teens. It's likely she'll have a looser curl pattern than mine since FI's hair is bone straight, so hopefully relaxing wont even be on her radar.

Danyelle,

Nope I didnt chop my hair off at once. My stylist refused to relax my hair anymore claiming it was paper thin when she finished. So every two weeks she would just straighten my hair with the old school hot comb. I love your natural hair because it is so thick and full. My hair is really thin so I just normally wear it straight. During the summer I just get a sew in and just wash and go.

You do a good job with styling your hair I think you should be able to pull that hair style off.

Janine you're such a ray of sunshine. Thanks for the encouragement! I'll try this and some other styles in the future. I want to be self reliant on the big day.

What about twist outs or braid outs, even bantu knot outs? they can fake fullness because they give volume and curl to the hair, maybe that can be a style option for when you don't have your sew-ins in.

I'm glad your stylist refused to give those to you. Some folks will do anything to the hair and not try to maintain the health.

Hey, hey, hey now! I am sooooooo excited to have fallen across this forum! I too am a chocolate bride and I JUST began growing my hair out in December! I am struggling because I have had relaxers ever since I was in High school. I got tired of the texture of my hair, how brittle it was, and just how "un" natural I felt if that makes any sense. I have a little girl and I started thinking about the images I was imprinting in her brain and it made me uncomfortable enough to give up the creamy crack. lol

I've been using Carol's Daughter, as I do on my daughter's hair.....but some days the transition is just HARD! Anywho, I am getting married in Riviera Maya in May of next year and I have been fretting about my hair! Yesterday, it even crossed my mind to wonder if the electrical outlets in Mexico would work with my flat iron! LOL It's that serious!!!

Anyway, I'm happy to be here and looking forward to sharing hair highs and lows with you ladies!!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
