Chocolate Brides: Hair Question

Recommended Posts

Nikki I wish I had some advice for you but I don't even know what lace front is.....yes I am truly wet behind the ears. I did notice however you are getting married in Punta Cana and if there is one thing I will attest for is the mighty hand of Dominican women when it comes to our hair. My hairdresser is from DR and she is fabulous! Even when I had my natural hair she would blow it out and it would last a full week...gym and all! I also know that they do wonderful weaves there....very undetectable. When I told her I wanted to do something with mine she first suggested me doing it there....she doesn't do weave and it is not practical when I can fly to NY (THANK GOD for Danyelle). I see her this weekend. If you want I can ask her the absolute best person to do a weave there. I don't know...just trying to be helpful. Good luck, I'll still ask her and see what she says.

Sure, ask her for her advice on a person there to do the weave. My bad experience (see a post above that I made) was actually with a Dominican woman. I won't chalk up that every woman will be as bad as her- but it wasn't a fun experience ;(

My hair actually reverted within a few days at the roots, I sweat easily and plentifully. Hence worried about doing my natural hair while down there.

Let me know what you find out and thanks!

Nikki, my friend was married at EPC in 2007. I stayed there and loved it. Many of the women there had thick, natural hair so I'm pretty sure they can handle it. They did her hair at the spa and she loved it. I thought it was very neat but didn't love the style of it. However, she didn't take any pics with her. I would recommend getting it styled the way you want here and taking the pics with you so they can do your style.

Ladies,

I am completely natural and have been so since 2006. I have found that Ms. Jessie's does not work for super thick hair. The products were a waste of my money. However, I will swear by kinky curly. smile159.gifYou can read about it here. My hair is so thick that I break combs. Everytime I wash it, I can hardly get the comb through. It takes about 2 days to completely air dry, LOL! Anyway, once you apply the knot today, the comb will easily slide through. I use it with the curling custard and always get compliments. If you just want to wear your own natural curls, I suggest trying it. I apply both and my hair looks like it's still wet, even when it dries. Let me know if you have any questions.

Maybe a lace front would be the better option because of how I want to wear my hair. I have length to it, it's about bra strap give or take after a flat iron- but it's not relaxed and that carribean humidity is NOT going to support the sleek style I want. I need to hurry up and make a flippin decision. The clock is ticking.

For those that have experience with lace fronts- where all did you get yours? Was application easy to learn to do?

Here's a pic of how I want my hair.

Nikki
That style is beautiful, some dominican women are great on natural black hair, if you use a moisture blocking product it may help it stay for the day, and then for the rest of your trip you can go naturally curly?

Sorry I can't help on the lacefront question, i know nothing about that stuff.
But that forum BHM black hair media has a lot of wig/weave sections that could help you out :)

Diva,

Make sure your hair is dripping wet when you apply it. Don't use as towel because it'll cause frizz. I bought the small bottle too, but it worked so well that I went back and got another bottle of knot today, the large jar of custard and the spritz, lol! I know it's not cheap, but it is good. Let me know what you think of it!

so based on divadivine25´s experience with the invisible braids, i decided to try them out. i am so glad i did! I am in Mexico and it is soooo hot! but beautiful! I love the fact that I don{t have to constantly do my hair every morning! I got wet and wavy human hair 18 inches. I can just wash my hair and go! just let it air dry or dry with a blow dryer, and it looks so pretty!!! I am not an expert with these braids but let me know if anyone has any questions. Getting married on Tuesday-wish me luck!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
