I think that you could do your speeches in the restaurant, but keep in mind that you only get the restaurant for 1 1/2 hours which may or may not be enough time. As for your first dance you do that in the lobby. From what I hear you are able to give the band a CD and they will play it for you, but this may only apply for 1 dance.....you and your hunny! I'm not so sure on the music during dinner....are you just looking to do this for dinner music?

Sasse - Me too!! I've actually cut down my "want to do list" by half, and anything that doesn't get done, OH WELL!!! the whole reason for a DW was not to stress right! lol, yeah right!

I'm kinda freaking at the lack of time, so I can imagine you are too!! just can't believe that we decided over a year ago and now it's here!!!! and I still have no tan, lol!

 

GettnHitched - In my understanding you are not allowed music or dancing in the a la carte restaurants...but I think you can get away with some sort of speeches, but def not dancing, that's what I've been told anyway

From what I witnessed (the reception was in the La Fondue), is that you definitely get an area for you and your guests. The wedding I was with was in a cute little jut out area so it was actually more private than the other wedding that was taking place out inside the actual restaurant.

Anyway, you could do speeches, just by talking. The noise wasn't too loud and you could definitely hear.

However, dancing and their own music wasn't happening. Not sure if they could have, but they didn't.

 

After dinner everyone went to the lobby bar for live music and they did their first dance there. It was BEAUTIFUL!

2 weeks!! We decided on the private beach reception for 41 and the basic package, which we got thrown in for having 10 platinum rooms! A few more people tried to upgrade, but they are sold out of platinum suites. Could mean the resort is actually pretty busy...

Any thoughts on wine? My family are all 'into' good wine and don't want to drink the resort swill. Is there somewhere nearby or in Playa to get decent wine? Can we just sneak it into the reception or will we be forced to pay corkage?

Two weeks for our wedding too! Super Excited!! Our flight has been sold out as well as all of our carrier's rooms. Looks like there's going to be quite the party going on out there! Hope they're ready for all of us! :-)

Originally, we had booked the private reception, but decided against it in the end - and we're glad we did - we had just as much fun on our own! The wedding ended up being $870USD (we paid $10/pp extra for the dinner over 20ppl) Plus, it gets chilly at night and most of us moved into the Sports Bar and then Disco when the temps started to drop! Its totally personal preference though, and I am sure that the private reception would be beautiful as well! That's all I have - I have a few pics if anyone wants, I can email them of the gazebo, flowers, etc. No worries about your weddings everyone - its absolutely perfect and all taken care of when you get there!

I am getting married at the Grand Sunset on 11/26/10, and I would love any pics that you could share of the restaurant & the first dance location. Who did you use for the photographer? Also, did you do a vow renewal pakage or the civil ceremony? I'm debating on this. It sounds like a renewal vow package is much less expensive!
