Grand Sunset Princess Resort

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies!

I have reserved my pricing and I am just waiting for my guests to put their deposits down to secure the quote and block of rooms. Although, airlines and online sites are/have been unable to book that far in advance, you can get quotes through travel agents. What I did was I had 4 TA's getting me pricing and then when one of them would get a good deal, I would forward it to the other TA's asking them to beat it, they usually were able to...I "haggled" with them all until I got the pricing I wanted AND upgrades ; ) I recommend doing it this way! It seems a little sneaky but why not try to get the best pricing and perks as possible right?

We are travelling Sunday to Sunday, Nov 1st thru 8th and the wedding date is Nov 6th! The ceremony is officially booked for 4pm!! Very exciting!! I've heard something about 2 dinner seatings at 6pm and 9pm so I figure 4pm is our best bet to get pics and mingling in before the reception at 6pm...

Candice ~ the resort is HUGE, so I wouldn't worry about the resort being booked solid : ) I've heard of a few brides that are booking the wedding date and then waiting to book their accomodation & flights. I've put my deposit down for my date, but not my rooms yet...I will be in the next 2 weeks though.

I will email you all the details I have tomorrow from work (I have all the info saved there).

Tiffany ~ we are staying an extra week in the swim-up suites for our honeymoon! I'd love to meet up!!

One question...does anyone know how many weddings the resort holds per day? My TA said 5!!! That seems like a lot...kinda sounds like an assembly line...not good! I emailed Damarys about that today, but I am sure it will take a few days to hear back...but if one of you knows for sure and could let me know how many that would be great, otherwise I'll post what Damarys has to say...as soon as I hear from her!

Roxane-That's awesome that you will be there another week and we'll be able to meet up.

I asked Damarys how many weddings they hold per day and she said 2. The couple who books first gets preference of when and where they want to hold their wedding.

As far as the reviews go take it with a grain of salt. Most people who write the bad reviews just wouldn't be happy with anything. I mean come on if the shower leaks throw a towel down on the floor. It's not your house and someone will come in to clean it up later. We travel about 3-4 times a year to all inclusive resorts and I always read the reviews before we go but just for the extra info that people might put in there I laugh at the rest because they are just a bunch of complainers. I read a review that someone posted about Jamaica and said something about a language barrier, um hello they speak English just like us! And we have to remember that when traveling to another counrty we can't expect them to speak English just for us. Some people forget that it's a bonus for all the people at the resort to speak english or another language for us when were in Mexico or somewhere that English is not the first language. Okay I'm sorry about my little rant but it drives me crazy some of the things people complain about on the review sites.

I think there are several BDW memebers getting married at this resort in the next couple months, their reviews will tell us the most about what we're expecting. If they have bad reviews then I would believe it and get a little nervous but until then I'm just going to have fun planning:)

Great to hear that it is 2 per day and not 5. Thank you for the info.

Tiffany - you are so right about the reviews on there. There was a recent review on trip advisor from a couple that was married there recently. They said the wedding was great! That is really all that matters and traveling in a group with friends and family is an added bonus : )

The price list I have received from Damarys say only good to Oct 31,2008. Have you spoke to her about the pricing for November (will she honor those rates) or does anyone have an more up to date pricing sheet you can send me?

Thank you :)

She told me that they would honor those prices but only if you paid upfront since everything says prices subject to change. I asked her about letting me know if the prices were going to change and let me have the option then of paying right away or waiting but she didn't answer that question.

Roxane, what package and option did you decide on? I want the cival ceremony but the basic "renewal of vows" package and I think I have to go with the next package if I want the cival ceremony but I'm not sure. She told me my reservation form was not complete but I'm not sure what I'm missing:)

I recieved an email from Damarys yesterday confirming 2 weddings per day too! Whew!!!

I've heard the same as Tiffany, if you pay in full in advance for your wedding package they lock in the pricing for the time period that you've paid. I'd maybe get it in writing (email) that the will not up the price after the fact though...

Tiffany ~ We are going with the Civil Ceremony. If you do the renewal of vows is it still legal? Or will you have to get married at home first then do the ceremony at the resort?

Has anyone heard anything about flowers? I guess the resort has recently changed florists and the offered selection for bouquets is pretty limited...does anyone know if they will make slight changes or add flowers to bouquets?

Hi Roxanne,

I have been told that in order to have you wedding legal you need to do the Civil.

The renewal of the vows is not legal and if you want to go that route I have been told you need to get married before you go. I was thinking about getting married at home and then just doing the renewal but we are going with the Civil as we want to get married in front of all our family and friends and the resort. If you do the renewal it eliminates having to do the blood test. Not too sure if you have to be there so many days for a renewal or not.

I'm doing the renewal of vows ceremony. There is no limit as to how long you have to be there before the ceremony. I'm still doing it 2 days after I arrive so that I have a couple of days to double check all of the details. About a month before the wedding Damarys will send you a form to confirm all the final details and send you an invoice. For the flowers they give a choice of about a dozen bouquets, you can make changes.

I leave in 4 weeks so I will let you all know how it goes!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
