Grand Sunset Princess Resort

Recommended Posts

Hello,

We are so excited to have picked this resort and are getting married January 22, 2015, what is your date?

I'm getting married here March 28, 2015!

How's your planning going?

Hello!!

I am new here and my fiance and I have decided on getting married here at grand sunset princess because we enjoyed it so much when we vacationed here about two years ago!!  We are hoping to get married in August on 2015 but was told by the WC that we should expect a price increase of 9% for a 2015 wedding!  Has anyone else encountered this!?  It seems like looking back at prices from previous years the wedding package prices havent changed so I am just wondering why all of a sudden they would increase!!  Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi!

When I reached out to the resort for a wedding quote they told me there was going to be a price increase, however they never quoted what the actual increase would be

My best guess as to why they're increasing prices next year, would be due to the extension they are currently building on the Riviera side. Maybe they think this will attract more brides?

Who is your WC?

My WC is P.A Monserrat Palacios ...It was Araceli Lagunas Adame  but I was told she is now on maternity leave!  How is your planning going??

How are you finding your WC? Mine's Jacqueline - she's pretty good, and responsive.

Planning's going pretty well, I bought my dress last weekend!

Have you picked a photographer yet?

Does anyone know if the 'outside vendor fee' is also the 'day pass' for the photographers? Or if they're two different things?

When I asked my WC she just said I had to pay the $200USD outside vendor fee but didn't specify that there was a 'day pass' I needed to get as well.

And also if there's a cost associated with having a photographer during your dinner?

Hey princess brides!

i just returned home last week from my wedding at the grand riviera princess. I thought I would write a quick little review to help you out as I enjoyed reading about other peoples.

Our Wedding was  on a Wednesday at 4pm. We arrived on the Sunday so we had a few days to relax, and work on our tans :) We brought a group of 42 people with us and it was AMAZING! Almost everyone had swimout rooms and I would definitey recommend them. They had all of our rooms close together and we could literally swim over to everyones rooms. The pool was definitley where the partying was at!

We met with our coordinator Monserrat on the Monday and went over all our choices and details. The meeting took about an hour and then we were all set to go! We chose the Sunset gazebo because I had read it was more private- and I liked the way it looked :) It is definitey way more private than the riviera gazebo. The sunset gazebo is at the end of the private section of the beach with a fence on the other side. The riviera gazebo on the other hand is right in the middle of the beach- just depends on what your in to. Monserrat was a little late at picking me and my girls up (she drives you to the site in a cart that has room for her +7) she came at like 4:10- no big deal since the wedding couldn't start without us. The ceremony was awesome. The cued the music I brought on a cd perfectly and they included in a sand ceremony for us (I brought my own sand and ceremony kit)

Immediatley after the ceremony we did pictures. Pictures started with everyone and eliminated people as we went until it was just us and the bridal party and then just us. It gave our famiy and freinds a nice chance to go grab a drink before dinner at 6. We used the resort photographer- his name was Andre and he was amazing. Your recieve a beautiful book with your photos, which is a nice keepsake to come home with, especially since everyone at work wants to see your photos and your excited to share them with everyone.

Dinner was at 6 at Mamma Mia, we had our own private section with 3 of our own waiters and the manager checked in a few times to make sure everything was to our liking. The food was great and everything went smooth. One note on the restaurant is that your on your own to get there- its about a 10 minute walk to the restaurant from the beach- it was a little warm out and we didnt have time to freshen up after pictures since we didnt finish pictures until and 6.

We had a beach party from 8-10 and it was soo much fun! they use the bar on the beach and its strictly for your wedding. (Monserrat stood by the bar the entire night and sent anyone who wandered on to the beach away letting them know that the bar was only open for wedding guests.- only a few people came by anyways) We didn't use a DJ we just used our BOSE system and it worked great and provided more than enough sound. I personally dont see a need for a dj at all- the time on the beach goes quick and this way you already have all the tunes you want to hear ready to go!

All in all everything was amazing and you hav nothing at all to stress about!

Also,

I had my make up done at the salon and she did an amazing job! i was very happy with it. One of my bridesmaids is a hairdresser so she did my hair for me.

I also brought my own fake boquets and bouttonnieres from home which I think turned out awesome. Because I didn't use the flowers provided in the infinity package I was able to pick a centerpience to use for the ceremony and head table. I go to keep it in my room afterwards which was nice because it was beautiful :)

Hey @@eauyeung my fellow Torontonian :), we just shot a wedding at Grand Sunset a few weeks ago. Our bride was told it was a $200 vendor fee per person coming onto the resort but the good news was that would also include the "day passes". Strange side note: the morning she went to pay the fees at the front reception for us they told her they had never heard of vendor fees and just to buy us day passes so she got really lucky! lol

Our couple stayed at Grand Sunset but had their actual ceremony at the little chapel in downtown Playa del Carmen. You can see more from their special day here or visit our website for a little more destination wedding inspiration! :)

Hi ladies. There is a new tax being imposed in Mexico starting in 2015 so the resort is probably raising prices to offset the new tax. I've seen it quoted on a couple of other resort sites that the new tax is coming in.

How far is this resort from Playa? Is it walkable, or would you have to take a taxi? The website for the resort says 15 minutes....

Thanks.

@julieapril2014, Did you have the swim outs in the Yucatan adult only section or the regular? If you were in the regular, did you get to choose what side you wanted. Riviera or Sunset? I was going to book the Yucatan because it's Platinum and I really enjoyed the extra perks it offered the last time we were there but the swim out rooms were in the shade most of the time and the pool was cold. Mind you it was in January. I wish there were Platinum swim outs on the Riviera side because its in the sun.

@@bicoastalimages So nice to meet another Torontonian on here! Thanks for the information regarding the day pass! I haven't been able to get in contact with my WC. Do you know why your bride paid the 'day pass' the day of? I always thought I'd be paying for it when I pay for the rest of the wedding (30 days before the wedding).

Your photos are so beautiful!!!

@@acw271011, from what I remember it was about 15 minutes from the resort via Taxi. I wouldn't say it's walkable though.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
