You make some really good points, particularly about not paying for excursions ahead of time (although I would recommend locking down a catamaran if brides want to take the entire group out as we are doing to day before the wedding. Finding a boat for 50 people on the fly could be tough). Other than the catamaran, I know personally I don't want to do a bunch of excursions, I want to relax by the pools and beach! I'm just wondering how hard it will be for people to find us since the resort is so large. Not a lot of people are going to want to pay for international cell phone services.

My fiance attended a destination wedding this past February where the bride and groom arranged a lot of group dinners etc. and he found that many of the guests were complaining about that.  They felt that since they were paying so much to be there that they should be able to plan their own vacation, except of course for the wedding day.  So we've decided not to plan anything for the group so that people can do what they want for the rest of the days they are in Mexico.  What they did appreciate was inviting people to come along on an excursion that they would book, but not being told they had to be there, which I think was the part they had the most problem with.  I have also been told by my sister who has been to this resort twice before to book excursions when you get there.  

As far as meeting up throughout the vacation, the other wedding party chose a specific spot at  a specific pool where people can meet up if they want to meet up with others.  They found that there was almost always someone else there, so we are going to do the same.  That way you always know where to find someone who wants to be found.  The other thing we are doing is providing everyone with a contact card in their OOT bags with their room numbers so you can get in touch with anyone by calling their room.

Yes great points! the catamaran was the one thing I was going to  mention lol because those need to be booked probably a little in advance! 

 

We were thinking of something like this as well, and expect 40-50 guests (invite is at 60 so far). How much r you looking at for cost for the catamaran if you don't mind me asking?

 

We are cutting down our list of possibilities and grand princess is a top 5 right now!

 

No date yet, and our TA wants to wait til sometimes after june/july to book. She is working her magic with pricing lol. CONGRATS ON YOUR BIG DAY BEING SET!

So I guess that wedding party waited until they got there to choose a specific spot at a specific pool if they want to try to meet up with others? Or is there a good place I could put in the welcome letter before we head down there?

The price of the catamaran is $1790 for four hours in the afternoon, including snorkeling gear and hotel pickup of all the guests. That's without the snacks or open bar. We can bring our own snacks and booze, although the price came in so low we may go ahead and add on the bar at $15 a person just so we don't have to mess with it (you can also pay $12 for just beer). We are all staying on the Sunset Princess side. We are getting married in the Ocean Gazebo. I'm not really sure which "side" that is on. We went with Sunset Princess because I'm a big fan of bookit.com and they have dirt cheap rates for Sunset. Then I hired a TA and he's matching all the bookit.com prices.

Thank u for all of that!! I wonder if we would do a catamaran hmmm lol:) Is that gazebo the same as the one from korenann's wedding?(pics above). I love the setting but don't know if we can fit 40-50 people in there!!
