I am planning an August 2013 wedding at GSP and am working on our save-the-date list. I've read that roughly 50 percent of the guests you invite to a DW actually attend. We were planning to send something like 200 invitations, including many to family we know won't come because of the cost but would be offended if they didn't receive invitations. We are on a bit of a budget and are now worried that we could have 100 people, which would break the bank if we do a beach party (I think we'd be OK with a gala party). Based on our invite list, I really don't think we'd have more than 80. Do any of you have experience with this? It's a huge gamble (and I just noticed the wedding coordinator said in an email that the private parties will like jump 15 percent in price next year!).

Also, can you use a sound dock and iPod in the gala rooms?

We sent out about 80 invitations and we have 44 people booked, so that sounds about right.. it turns out everyone just needed a vacation lol. So you are taking a gamble..  We have the chill out party booked, and it's $100 a plate for us.. so really, the more people that book, the more expensive it is for you because they won't accommodate such a large group into any of the al-la-cartes. I'm not sure the pricing I was given for the gala rooms, but I remember it being fairly pricey (not as expensive as the chill out)... Regarding the sound dock, you can use that in the gala rooms. They rent one out if you don't have one.. I hope this helps a bit? Brandie

It does help, thanks!

Our budget would be in deep trouble if we got fully half to attend, although the galas are an option. I wonder why the menus for the galas are so unappealing though. None include chicken and many people are not fish or pork eaters. It seems like there is no rhyme or reason why they charge certain prices for certain things.

Also, what do you know about the price increases that will occur next year? We got a fact sheet that says they are going to raise the rate by 15 percent, which would take the beach party up to almost $100 a person. Do they typically increase prices by 15 percent annually? That's pretty outrageous.

Thanks again for your help!

I know! I feel your pain! I spoke to a bride at the end of last year who was paying $20 per person less than what we are paying for ours for the same thing. We are paying $100 per person, which is ridiculous! You figure they would give you a bit of of discount the more people you have but that's not the case. So in regards to your question, yes.. seems to be the trend for them increasing the prices every year!

I'm not sure how much the gala rooms are though, I never did ask but you would figure they would be cheaper than the chill out party/beach reception...

Of course! Let me know if you have any other questions :)

I would ask your WC if they could add some chairs to the gazebo if you did end up having 60+.. for some reason I remember my WC telling me the 60 people capacity is including the bride and groom and bridal party. I could be wrong though. Or, maybe you might want to look at a beach wedding, I would assume they could put 60+ chairs there...

We are trying to come up with some fun songs so far I've got " walking on sunshine" by Katrina and the waves for the girls to walk to, "In your eyes" by Peter Gabriel for my dad and I, "dream weaver" for the signing of the certificate and looking at that black eyes peas song " going to be a good night" for walking back up the isle... Still debatable though!

Can someone who has been to this resort before please show me where the riviera gazebo and chill out club is located on this map? I'm just making up a newsletter type thing for my guest bags and want to include all the important places they need to be clearly marked off.

Thanks!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
