combined parents dance

I need help thinking of a parent's dance song!

We are having groom/mother and bride /father dance at the same time.

When our brides ask us this question, we always recommend "Shower the People" (James Taylor). Brides ALWAYS comment afterwards that the song was PERFECT.

 

This is especially true since your parents are probably James Taylor fans (or at least know of him since he's been around a while).

I found this one so far: Jamie Cullum - "These are the Days." It seems appropriate.

My fiance really wants "Landslide," but the Smashing Pumpkins version.

OK, I have a suggestion: The song "Heavenly Day" by Patty Griffin. It is a perfect wedding song, it doesn't talk about being in love with the person so I think it works for a parents song, and I think I will use it too! Here are the lyrics:

We did the combined dance as well and used John Mayers song "Daughters". Very fitting IMO. The song still kind of tears me up...

Does anyone have any other suggestions for a combined parent dance? We are thinking about having our father/daughter and mother/son dance together, but I can’t seem to find a song I like. And it can't be country. I like country but the other 3 don't.

We did a combined dance and my Dad picked the song. He chose Paul McCartney's "Listen to What the Man Said". He didn't like any cheesy sweet songs and this one was upbeat so he wanted this one. He is also a very inexperienced and shy dancer so the song worked for us. My FI and his Mom could dance to anything so they didn't really care about the song itself. They were just happy to be partying
