Hey ladies, I need an advice. Do you tip the photographer, videographer, DJ, etc? How much? And how much should I tip the wedding coordinator? We are leaving on Saturday and I just want to make sure I have all the $$$ straightened out. Thanks!

Purple sounds lovely, what time is your wedding?

Can anyone offer any help from the UK with the marriage certificate info? I am freaking out a little bit trying to get my head around it!

Hi DanniiB48,

I am actually getting married on the same day as you but at 2pm. I was getting a bit worried about the marriage certificate and emailed the General Register Office. This is what they said :

With reference to your recent email regarding your impending marriage in Mexico.

There is no provision or legal requirement in British law for a marriage of British citizens overseas to be registered in this country. Your original marriage documents together with a translation, if necessary, can however be deposited with the records of this Office. This facility is only a means of readily obtaining further copies of the documents. You then need only apply to this Office instead of the authorities overseas. Only the party to the marriage who is a British national can apply for the deposit and only the Consul for the district where the marriage took place may send the documents to this Office. There is no requirement for an Apostille legalisation stamp in order to deposit a copy of the certificate here.

If you wish to apply for the deposit you should contact the:

Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Nationality & Consular Directorate

Room K 4.9

King Charles Street

London

SW1A 2AH

Tel: 03700 00 22 44 (Mon-Fri 1200-1600). National rate charges will apply.

Email : bmdenquiries@fco.gov.uk

Web: http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travelling-and-living-overseas/births-marriages-deaths/

Or alternatively the British Consul in Mexico.

The documents can be deposited at any time after the marriage, there is no time limit but they must be originals. Photocopies are only acceptable if they are certified by the issuing authorities. Once deposited here the documents cannot be released from the Registrar Generalâ€s custody.

A note is also made in the indexes to the records held at this Office for research and certificate application purposes.

When an application for copies is made you will receive certified photocopies of the documents sent to this Office by the Consul. You will not receive a British style certificate. The photocopies are issued under the seal of this Office and are usually acceptable as evidence as if they were certificates issued by the authorities of the country where the marriage took place.

It is not within the province of the Registrar General to pronounce on the legal issues of any marriage, that is a matter for a court of competent jurisdiction. However generally speaking, provided that the marriage is contracted according to the laws of the country/state where the marriage took place and is considered to be valid in that state then there is no reason to suspect that it would not be valid in the UK.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

Bit of a long winded answer but i hope it is what you were looking for.

Wow! Thanks so so much Angela thats a really big help!

I contacted our local registry office and was advised that the certificates could not be deposited but this contradicted everything I had read online so was getting quite worried!

Have you been told what will go on Mexico end with the certificate? If they consul send the certificate to the general register office then do you know if we get a copy to take away with us at all for name changes etc?

Congratulations on your wedding too by the way and how lovely that we're getting married on the same day, where are you having your ceremony etc? We are having the ceremony at the beach gazebo, followed by dinner at the Portofino and then cocktails at La Laguna. :)

Hi Dannii,

I have read this on the Grand palladium wedding website - A copy of the Marriage Register is given to the newlyweds upon conclusion of the ceremony by the marriage officer. If the bride and groom would like more copies, they have to request them with their wedding coordinator; copies require an additional charge.

Congraulations to you too. We requested Portofino too but you must have got in there first, ;-) so we are having our dinner at mare Nostrum. Not decided 100% on where we want the ceremony. Probably the beach but we don't have to decide until we get there. We have a big gap between the ceremony and dinner so going to have drinks at the Kantenah lobby. Not decided after dinner, will probably just go with the flow. We only have a handful of people flying out so not too worried.

Hi Angela,

Thanks so much...I have read bits and pieces and asked questions but when everyone is giving you conflicting information it is so frustrating!

The beach will be beautiful for the ceremony, in fact everywhere will be! We have 12 including ourselves so not a big party too. I will keep an eye out for you on the day! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
