Hi DaryaB and Brides of Palladium!

I'll be in Grand Palladium next week to meet with Vanessa. I guess I'll ask her whatever questions I've got. How are you bringing your OOT bags? We get one luggage check in and one hand-carry. If the gowns are hand carried and luggage ( clothing, shoes, etc) are checked in, how will the OOT bags be transported? Please post your ideas.

Vanessa got back to me regarding fireworks, sky lanters and sparklers. Fireworks and Sky lanterns are not allowed because they are a danger to the palapas roofs and the surrounding eco system. Last thing we want is the resort we're getting married in burning down!

They do allow sparklers.

Thank you!

I was going to ask Vanessa to send me some pictures of how the regular set-up looks like. From pictures of other weddings it looks like they already decorate the restaurant for you.

I have short hair so I will probably do it myself and have my girlsfriends help me with the make up. I'm like Samantha when it comes to getting my make-up done by a stranger. I don't want it to look unnatural.

It is so generous of you to get the groomsmen suits and bridesmaids dresses. I wish we could do it but we I have 8 bridemaids and I think we have like 10 guys.

I went to a friend's destination wedding 2 years ago and she had little pop-up coolers (which I still use to this day) with some snacks, bottle water, gum, and sample-size meds like tylenol, tums and pepto-bismol that all of us had to use at some point :) I was planning on doing something similar and also include spf chapstick, sunscreen, aloe for those that get sunburnt, and bug spray.

My friend also did the maracas as the favors. I will have to do something else because I don't want it to look like I completely copied her idea. But we all had fun with the maracas during the reception :)

Have any of you ladies picked out your flowers?

Hi Shannon! I'll be in Grand Palladium next week to check out the resort and have our engagement pics taken at Xcaret by photographer friends from New York. My fiance and I have an appointment with Vanessa on Wednesday. We booked AGI tours recommended by PalladiumAddict.com to shuttle us  to and from the airport ($130 USD) for private service. I plan on trying out the hairstylist at Renova Spa for the engagement pics at Xcaret.

I'll be checking out the flowers for bouquets and centerpieces when we get there. I had a picture of how i wanted my centerpieces. ( candelabras with flowers) and theywere too pricey, so I'll have to see what Palladium has to offer for a more inexpensive version. If it's not what I like, I'll have to go with an outside vendor.

I have finalized a ton of details recently.  We will stay for 9 days and guests arrive on our 3rd day.  This will give us time to unwind and get the wedding stuff done before the guests arrive.  We changed our ceremony location from the gazebo to the church at 4pm, cocktail hours at nearby bar (tbd) while we do photos and reception at La Laguna from 7-11.  We are doing the cocktail reception which is $14 per person for 2 hours and then $5 extra per person for each additional up to 4 hours total.  We are doing the 4 hours at $24/person.  We got to pick 12 hourderves.  I am still doing tables.  Deciding on centerpieces still.  I am deciding on decor now.  I think I may incorporate color by the hanging paper lanterns and string lights.  We hired DJ Bob as he was only $575 for 4 hours!  We spoke with him on the phone and he seems awesome.  I am deciding on a photographer now.  I just received pricing from just about every photographer known to man there.  So if you need any pricing info just holler and i will email it to you.

Are you using hair and makeup services at the resort?  Bringing in someone or scratching it?

Is the disco every night?  Just in case we extend our party.

Are you doing anything really cool during your reception?

Do you know if sky lanterns are allowed?  Sparklers?

What are you doing for favors?  I was thinking maracas, but it seems like everyone does.

Are you giving OOT bags?  We are buying the girls dresses and the groomsmen suits, so we are beginning to go over budget soon.

I would love to hear all your ideas if you want to share!  I hope all is going smooth!

Darya-

At this point I only have 3 bridesmaids and groomsmen, so it is a little more affordable.  Trust me sometimes, I wish I had kept my mouth shut!!  LOL.  I love the cooler bag idea!  Very cute!  i am not sure if we are doing OOT Bags yet.  I just can see them adding up like crazy.  We are already over budget- NICE!!  I really wanted to get the boarding pass invites made by one of those awesome companies, but they would have been around $800.  I just couldn't see it.  We ordered our boarding pass invite from weddingpaperdivas.com.  Now I am just trying to figure out whether or not I will make the sleeve for them, which would be VERY cute.  I think I am going to do my own hair since it is short.  The girls actually requested to do their own, which is very nice.  I still need to pick the photographer, decorations, favors, and who knows what else.  I am trying to wrap all this up by May 15th, so I can enjoy the summer.  We live at the beach plus I am a realtor and things are getting very busy.  I just want to be able to kick back relax and work.  I love reading ideas.  Keep in touch!

I have a question if anyone could answer it for me. I was reading through the pdf of info that the resort sent me and it says that "your 4 witnesses have to be there 3 days prior to the wedding date." does this mean 4 bridesmaids/groomsmen? or does it mean any witness for the blood test? (like a parents or other people who will get there early) I don't get it.

Mikeycelle: HOW EXCITING!!!!!! that's great that you guys are doing that! I'm totally jelly that I didn't think of doing something like that prior to the wedding. have a blast and can't wait to hear your thoughts!

Mikeycelle, have a great time and please keep all of us posted on how it went. I hope to see lots of pictures! Samantha, the witnesses don't have to be bridesmaids or even family, I think they mentioned that they can even provide them for you. It's for some kind of legal purposes.

Hi Ladies!

I've been browsing the internet for decor ideas and came across two cool websites I thought I'd pass along in case anyone might be interested.

http://www.koyalwholesale.com : they have everything you can think of for wedding decor!

http://www.recycledbride.com : this website is such a great idea. you can buy and sell gently used wedding items. I like it especially for the wedding/reception decor. I found great votive candle holders as well as overlays and runners for the reception tables.

Happy planning Ladies!

Hola Samantha,

Your weddings is several months away so we would strongly recommend you to check with your hotel and try to book a 3:30 PM. If it's not possible, consider doing your sunset portraits immediately after the ceremony, the idea is to take advantage of the gorgeous end of day light!! : )

On the other hand, I saw you had a question about the witnesses. They can be anybody in your group, either relatives or friends but they must be at least 18 years old. They will also need to have their passports and tourist cards (provided upon arrival at the airport) handy, and sign your legal paperwork at least 3 days prior to the ceremony. I'm assuming you are having a legal ceremony??

Happy planning!!

so 1.5 hours before sunset! Yikes! I looked up sunset times in November for that area and it said it was approximately at 4:50 and my wedding is planned for 4:00pm. You think that's going to be too rushed?

now I'm worried! :(

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
