For those of you who are getting married legally at home - are you using a wedding package or do you use the vow renewal packages?  I never thought of that until reading your posts.  Are you telling your guests that you'll be legally married before?  I was hoping to avoid telling them...  there's already been a lot of drama about us being "selfish" for having a destination wedding, I'm sure that would cause some uneccessary stress.

We went with one of the renewal of the vow packages.  We have only told a select few (my mom, MOH, and BM) that we did it already, otherwise, no we are keeping it quiet!  We decided not to tell anyone, and it was recommended by our TA to keep it quiet.  Otherwise we'd have people who wouldn't go "because we were already married."  I had talked to Rocio and she said not to worry, they wouldn't do anything different in the ceremony to let on that it wasn't the legal ceremony!

That's such a good idea!  I never even thought of that - and they're so much less expensive.  Thanks =)

No problem!  Our biggest hang up was having to have 4 witnesses there with us three business days in advance.  We didn't want to have to force people to go early, and then leave right after the wedding basically...  So, it just worked best for us...it might not for everyone, but like you said, it also makes it less expensive too!

Thanks for checking in :)

I'm getting nervous!!!!  I'm having my 2nd bachelorette party tomorrow :)  (My friends and family live 10 hours away... so I had one back home in February, now I'm having another one in town for my friends here).  It'll be nice to relax a bit!

Everything is under control... I just need to finish up my playlist for the cocktail and pick the song for our mother/father dance... AND PACK!  I want to start packing next weekend...

We wanted to do a rehearsal dinner for our parents and bridal party... but if we do, we have to have a set menu, which I'm not willing to do.  Either that or eat at one of the buffets... Not sure what we are going to do!  We are already eating at the buffet for our welcome dinner on the evening of our arrival... I don't want to force another buffet on everyone or a set menu either.  :(  We thought about eating outside of the resort but it would cost way too much...

Leaving in 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :D :D :D :D :D

I'm glad to hear that things are going well!  You are almost there, and you don't have much to do, which is great!!!  We decided to do our welcome dinner at one of the buffets, that way we weren't forcing a set menu on people and we didn't have to pay extra for the meal.  I'm sure you will figure something out!!

I can't wait to hear how things go and hopefully see some pictures!!  How long are you staying there for??

Hi,

I'm new to this site, but also getting married at the White Sands resort in November. We are opting for the renewal of vow package and getting married 'quietly' before we go, as we decided to decrease the amount of things we would need to do there. We will be getting married a week or two before we leave. To my understanding, the renewal of vow package is the same as the wedding packages just minus the legal fees associated with being married down there.

I know for us, we will not be telling anyone we are already married when we get there. I think it would make the trip feel less special for our guests.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to posting on this site, but I have been reading all the posts, and there is a wealth of info here. Congrats to everyone getting married. We have booked our wedding for November 10, 2011.

Just a question, I'm in the process of trying to decided where to have our cocktail reception. I have been given the choice of La Laguna and Gran Azul. Does anyone know if one appears to be a better choice than the other? Laine described La Laguna as beautiful, but I don't remember seeing anything posted here about Gran Azul. Also, I have received several pictures of flower samples. Does anyone know if they are all the same price, or do the prices vary depending on the flowers you choose.

Thanks,

Caroline

Welcome Caroline!  I haven't seen anything about Gran Azul on here either, but that is where we are having our reception.  I have seen some pictures on the Grand Palladium Addict website of both, and both look beautiful.  I would be able to tell you more after our wedding, but that won't be until the beginning of May, when we return....  Regarding the flowers, I think it depends on what you want.  For my bouquet that is included in the package, I have seen some samples, but decided to just go with "something tropical" that includes orange flowers.  We are getting Calla Lilies for the guys, and we have to pay quite a bit more for those because they are not available there (they have to ship them in).  So, I don't know that I can completely answer that question.

Feel free to ask anything more, and we'll help you out!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
