Henna or Mendhi Artist

Does anyone know of any henna or mendhi artists in the cancun/playa del carmen area? We're having an East Indian wedding and henna/mendhi is a big traditional aspect. We don't want to use those vendors that sell pre-made henna tattoos that you see in their catalogs...we're looking for an actual henna artist.

I actually don't know any but I just wanted to say that its so cool that your doing henna for your wedding. I love henna! Are you planning to have a henna party the day before? If you can't find someone do you have a friend or family member that could do it?

Yea..we're having a henna party the night before the wedding...of course, if the resort allows us to (which is a requirement of the resort). If the wedding turns out to be big, we dont want to impose on a family member/friend to do everyone's henna...considering it takes while because it's so intricate.

I'm having similar issues, except we're getting married in Jamaica. We may end up taking someone from the US who can do mehndi, sari draping and hair/makeup etc..obviously we have to pay for her travel, but it may work out in the end b/c she does a little bit of everything.

There are vendors off 5th avenue in Playa Del Carmen that claim they can do Henna/Mendhi but I don't think they will be doing anything intricate. Have you taken a trip down there?

Yes, I went down there last year but that was before we decided to have a DW...so I didn't bother to look. I know they do henna tattoos down there but that's different from regular henna (and I don't want to take the risk of getting black henna---which is terrible!!!). At this point, we're thinking of just getting henna from here and flying down with it.

Hi Girls,

I just wanted to write and let you know that I just had an Indian/Hindu wedding in Cabo San Lucas. I probably faced a lot of the issues you are also going through so if you need any help let me know. I am thinking about getting into the wedding planning business in general because I hired a coordinator in Cabo, and ended up doing everything myself because she knew so little bout Indian weddings. Regarding the henna, I had mine done in San Diego (where I live) the night before leaving for Cabo and since that was 5 days before the wedding I had to take all sorts of hilarious measures to keep it dark, but it turned out awesome. We had a mehndi party the weekend before leaving because I could not find someone in Cabo to do it so the sangeet in Cabo had no mehndi. This worked out well cause if you have a destination wedding its kinda nice to do one local event so people can see you and come to that in case they dont come to the wedding.

Also, my bridal mehndi girl was willing to come to Cabo and may be willing to go to Cancun...let me know if you are interested!

Definitely not worth the risk getting it done by folks that you don't know especially on your big day.

Thanks, Suman. So nice to meet a bride who has done an indian DW. The mendhi is my biggest issue right now. But then again, I feel like I'm going to have 20 luggages to carry all the little things needed for an indian wedding to Cancun. How did you keep your mendhi dark for 5 days I'm worried if I go into the ocean, it will lighten!
