My photographer took deposits via PayPal, so I went that route.

It really depends on the weather. Yes it is Mexico and its very warm during the day but after being there you aclimatize (sp?) and when the sun gets down its very cool if its windy at all. We were originally going to have our reception lagoon side, I think thats the natural pool we did our TTD session in. But then decided it to have it over by the adult pool which is directly across the right of the Oceana restaurant. Two things I didnt like about this.

#1 Oceana plays the same music loop all night long and its loud. Your music system unless your doing the whole out sound system rental will not be able to compete here so you have two musics playing the whole time.

#2 If its breezy at all its cool. The daytime high the day of my wedding was 28 C and it was like 12 degrees outside but with the wind it was so cold my nose was running. All the girls went and stuck there legs in the hot top which is why I had told Janna she might want to have it above portofino. Yes I had the beautiful atmosphere but we had to cut things short because you dont want to be wearing a hoody on the night of your wedding. Just my opinion.

I used an outside photographer named Lidia Grosso and paid her via paypal also. I was intially leery because shes an unknown on these forums but she was amazing. It was the toss up between her's and Sascha's and I am happy with my photos. My books are on my way too super excited. Anyways if anyone needs any help or anything please let me know. I still have to do my review and have it in point form on pencil but our AHR is 2 weeks away and that has me busy busy too. Talk soon ladies. Meghan woohoo less than 30 days. Very awesome. Sunshine the days will fly by, hop you have a great time.

I thought I sent this the other day, but it seems to have not gone through, so I'll try again! Not sure if it's already been discussed, but just in case...

My TA got in touch with Jacy on the whole outside photographer thing because all the other Dreams resorts allow a day pass for them instead of booking a room. There is no way around booking the room, however, if your photographer is from Mexico, you can get the local rate on their room, being 1100 pesos. Paying roughly $110 for a room for one night sounds much better than the prices I was finding for a room for one night online, so I thought I'd spread the word. :o)

OMG I wish that I knew there was a local rate for the rooms!!!! I think we paid nearly three times that rate even on sale! Way to go for finding that out and I'm sure it will help a lot of other girls out down the road. Damn, damn, damn :)

And yes, we are officially three weeks away from leaving and there's almost nothing I've done this weekend that wasn't related to the wedding. There are a few last minute things that I'm scrambling with and it kind of sucks but thankfully its all pretty easy to get done so that's the best I can hope for. I am definitely getting excited though!

Dee, thanks for the extra comments about the poolside location. That's where we're currently thinking of having our reception because we don't really want to pay a lot extra for a private venue but we also want the concrete to make it easier on our grandparents who will be attending and don't have great mobility anymore.

Can anyone tell me if there is an extra fee to have the reception by the lagoon? I know someone commented that the algae can make it smell (which of course I don't really want either!) but it might be better than freezing!

There is no extra fee to have the reception by the lagoon. I had mine by the lagoon because it was pretty much private. I didn't notice an algae smell but then again, I was married almost a year ago and things can change.

Can anyone tell me, how do we pay Jacy for all the wedding related charges once we are at the resort? Is it cash only or can we use our credit cards for the payments? FI and I have to get money exchanged this week and need to know whether to account for our reception costs etc as a cash payment.

Oh yes, and for anyone who has chosen a reception meal that is NOT included in one of the wedding packages (ie. not the gold or silver plates), did you have all your guests choose their meals ahead of time, and how far in advance? Was it before you left for the wedding, or once you were all at the resort and could quickly ask all your guests? I've been trying to check with Jacy but I think she is misunderstanding and thinks I want TWO main course meals for each guest.

Thanks!

Jacy and her team made it so lovely up there. I too wanted it outside, I totally understand what you mean and what you're after. The wind was cool when I went in March so having it indoors took away the worry that my guests and the food would be cold. There is a small outside deck where we mingled, and folks could go in and out if they wanted to. We also had our champagne cocktail hr above Portofino too. There were flowers everywhere, the lighting was nice, and the food was hot. Let me know how I can help!

Janna
How many guest did you have? Would it fit 60 people?

Hey Meghan, OMG it's getting soo close! Good Luck to you! I just brought cash with me and paid with USD, it was a better rate than to put everything on the CC since it will ding you twice. Esp with the rates sooo awesome the last few days I recommend that!. Let me know if you have any other questions!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
