If this is true, I am kinda bummed...not like I could afford most photogs to come in and do a ttd session, but I would like to have the option!!!
Also, Jacy said the resort is set to open in Dec, but the banner on the Dreams website now says Nov 08 again?!?
I haven't had any contact with Jacy, I have only been talking with Natalia, so I emailed her for some clarification. I made it clear that I was using my own photog and my TA had contacted her about it too and they were aware that it was Mexican photographers, so I would really like to get this cleared up. Natalia has been great with prompt replies to i hope to have an answer from her soon. I really don't want to feel forced into using the resort photographer and bringing one with me is just not in the budget, so I am crossing my fingers. Thanks for the info Elizabeth.

MsSunshine....from information that I have been told, the beach at this Dreams resort is one of the least rocky in this particular area, so I am sure that there would be plenty of options for you.

I have only spoken with Natalia also. I have an email saying that an outside photographer is fine. I think it would be weird for other Dreams Resorts in the area to allow outside photographers and DPA not... And it doesnt make sense that the agreement with the Photog Union or whatever prohibit Mexican photographers from working at DPA. That is the first time I have heard of that. If anything it should be the other way around and foreign photographers should be prohibited.

I can not remember if I asked this: Do you allow outside vendors? I would like to bring in a photographer and maybe silk flowers. Just your own photpgrapher
If I bring in my own photographer, can you substitute the photographer from the wedding package for a videographer? We are flexible., but actually we can not confim you 100%
Above is a quote from an email with Natalia. I am about to send another email to her to confirm and make sure that she is giving me the correct information. I'll let you all know what she says.

Bianca that is exactly what I was thinking. Granted I should have asked, but if one Dreams resort allows it I thought all would. And the union thing doesnt make sense! I was telling my FI the same thing.

Here is the quote from the email Jacy sent me...

"In case you have decided to bring your own photographer or videographer with you, there is no problem; feel free to do so. I just want to let you know that due the contract we have with the union of national photographers, we can only accept non-mexican photographers (must live abroad) and they must be guests in our resort."

I wrote an email today, specifically to the attention of Natalia and I received an email back from Jacy, again, who I have had no contact with and she said the SAME thing, word for word in her reply to me. I made it clear that I had my previous conversations with Natalia and that I was already using a Mexican photographer and that had I known of the policy I would have thought twice about having my wedding at that resort. I said more but...lets just say I am NOT happy and I let her know it.censored.gif I think I am going to get my TA involved at this point. I am fuming!!!!!

Have you already booked your photographer? I am pretty sure that Natalia is the "head" coordinator, from what I have gathered from other sites. What Jacy is saying does not make sense and I wouldn't be surprised if its just a mix up on English word usage which I have seen with the Dreams Tulum guide.

I have already booked my photographer and she will be taking my photos on my wedding day. Natalia and Jacy aren't going to tell me that she isn't allowed to. We are not dealing with Karisma resorts here... There are no resorts that straight up don't allow outside photographers. I just think this is some miscommunication bc it really just doesnt make sense. I'm not worried at all.

BTW... Can we share what emails we are contacting them at? Below is what I have received/sent from/to Natalia

weddings@dreamspuertoaventuras.com.mx
weddings1@dreamstulum.com.mx
weddings@sunscapepuertoaventuras.com.mx (I'm pretty sure this one has been closed or redirected to one of the others)

Does anyone know who the "house" photographer will be at Dreams PA? I've seen some of the pictures posted from other resorts using a "house"photog and some are good and some are just "ok". Weddings are a one shot deal and you don't get a "do-over", so pictures are really important.

Hello Ladies!

I heard back from Jacy(1st time) and she only mixed it up more... Here is what she said(I am bolding the parts she is contradicting herself in):

Quote:
This is the wedding department at Dreams Puerto Aventuras.

In case you have decided to bring your own photographer or videographer with you, there is no problem. I just want to clarify that due the contract we have with the union of national photograpghers; we can only accept non Mexican photographers and they have to be guests in our resort. As this is a new policy for Dreams Puerto Aventuras, if you happen to have any written confirmation sent by Natalia to use non local photgraphers, we will respect the use of this service.

The wedding deposit is also a new policy for all Dreams Resorts but as our resort is closed under renovations we are not asking for this yet, I will inform when will be necessary. Regarding your questions about the ceremony, around 50 chairs can fit in our wedding gazebo and if the package does not come with white chairs we can offer this service (extra charge may apply). About the reception, we offer round tables.

Please If I can be of any further assistance, do not hesitate to contact me; as Natalia is out for holidays I will be more than glad to help you.

non Mexican photographers= non local photgraphers

In the first part she says we can only use "non Mexican photographers"

In the second part she says I need written confirmation from Natalia to use "non local photgraphers"

The two terms mean the same thing and I think that she is just mixing them up. I emailed her again to clarify it... So if you have emails from Natalia, you should be fine if things don't turn out the way they should... but I think its all just a miscommunication.

Okay, maybe I was rash anyway but here is an email I just wrote to DPA...Hopefully there isnt too many typos and what not to take away from my cred...oh and its kinda long!!!

'I am disappointed to hear of this policy of no outside-Mexican photographers. I havent yet booked one, as I am still in the process of narrowing it down to who I would like to use. However, I do know I cannot afford to fly in a photographer and pay for them to be a guest and their services.

I understand I am to blame for not clarifying the use of an outside-Mexican photographer, but honestly did not see the need in that all other Dreams resorts allow outside photographers.

I am an active member of a destination wedding website and have been in contact with other women who have their weddings booked at your resort. There has been so much miscommunication between what Natalia has told us and what Jacy is now telling us. If we are over a year away from my wedding date and already are dealing with so much miscommunication, I fear what my wedding day will be like.

I do, unfortunately, have to say I will be in contact with my travel agent to see if there is another resort that meets my needs and has the same day available to move my wedding to.

I hope you will be able to address my concerns as it would be a large inconvienence to find a new resort and change travel plans for my guests.

Thank you for your time.'

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
