Dreams Puerto Aventuras Brides - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

I am not doing many flowers, just my boquet I think. Maybe white calilillies. All white with a blue ribbon around the stems. Simple.

I am having my bridesmaid carry a parasel in white instead of flowers.

We got the ultimate package, but really only because we wanted the dinner, cocktail hour and music. I can do without the hair, makeup and extra flower stuff.

We will see if they allow us to substitue for other things( longer music set ex.)??

I will be following this thread closely. We are having our vow renewal at DPA on October 15, 2009. Originally, we had selected Riu Ocho Rios but have since changed to DPA. The review on TripAdvisor made me question our decision to switch locations. This thread has helped immensely. I look forward to the reviews after some of you return from your weddings. Thanks to everyone for your posts and the helpful info.

Welcome! My wedding is scheduled for October 29, 2009- just a few weeks after yours! I can't wait to hear from people after they actually have their wedding or ceramonies (and hopefully see lots of pictures!)

Some of the reviews have made me a bit nervious too! But like others have mentioned, some people only look for the bad things, so they only see the bad things. Also, I keep thinking that because it just opened, they are still just smoothing things out. Plus, I am not expecting things to be "perfect." I am marrying the love of my life in a beautiful location with my closest friends and family. Nothing could happen that would ruin that (except maybe a hurricane!)

Welcome Marryinghimagain!

How cool to have a renewal vow ceremony.

I am also excited to see the weddings and reviews over the coming months. I think it is a little bit early to take all of those reviews to heart since the resort is newly opened AND I agree some people find the bad in anything.

I can't wait to marry the love of my life also!!

marryinghimagain, I too switched from ROR to DPA, I TOO am questioning my switch, although nothing has been booked yet since my wedding date isn't until Jan 2010. I am not too sure anymore since picking a resort is the hardest thing to do.

What made you girls choose DPA? I am so worried that I picked the wrong resort and the pricing doesn't suit my guest.. but at the same time it's MY wedding :)

After reading all your post tho, I do feel a little better...

I think it is really hard to be a DPA bride. I mean, I was thinking about going through some other resort's threads, like Dreams Tulum, but anyone from that resort having concerns would be able to look to a bride who had been previously married there. We are the first people to visit the renovated resort under new mgmt, let alone the first to get married there!

I figure, no matter where I chose to get married I am going to be concerned if my guests are going have a good time. One of the reasons people want to go is because it is an excuse to have a vacation and I want to make sure they have a good time.

The new reviews that are good did make me feel better though.

Well, it looks like we all feel the same. grouphug.gif We will all support one another. As they say, don't sweat the small stuff. That is going to be my thinking during this planning process.

After all, I am going to a great destination to renew the vows I said years ago to an amazing man that has loved me, provided for me and always put me before himself for the last 34+ years (will be 35 at vow renewal). Our wedding in 1974 was a huge "all the trimmings" formal affair when we were still kids (him 21 and me 19). This time around is going to be relaxed and fun. So we will go with the flow and love every minute b/c this is all icing on the cake to us. We have had a wonderful life together, have 2 beautiful children that have grown into amazing adults. What could diminish any of that?

Bring on DPA !! smile29.gif

I will admit I am one of those that have been letting the reviews get to me, but after talking to family last night I decided I am not going to focus on that anymore because it is not what is important. If I go in there expecting bad, I will only see bad and I don't want that to be my focus. I am going to think about the fact that I chose DPA because it is BEAUTIFUL. I saw the pictures posted on Dreams site while renovations were going on and fell in love with it and didn't even want to look at anything else. I also picked based on the Dreams reputation and because they do allow kids, so I am not going to let the review about kids bug me. I will have my 4 year old with me and while he will be the only kid with our group, everyone that is going has had kids and won't be bothered. This is also my first AI experience, so I have nothing to compare to and I am sure it will be the best experience because I will be marrying the love of my life.

marryinghimagain - that is an awesome story and I hope 35 years from now my FI and I can return to DPA and renew our vows! It is wonderful to hear such great love stories.smile03.gif

Allimay,

It is so funny that you mentioned this. I was just on Trip Advisor and read the same review and flipped out!!! I called a friend of mine who does alot of travelling and asked if ever uses Trip Advisor. He said he's been on websites such as this, but does not pay any attention to them. He has been to Mexico and Riviera Maya several times and said the resorts there are all beautiful. He said Dreams have a great reputation and not to worry.

You are going down with a group of people you love and you will have a great time no matter where you stay!!! I felt so much better after talking with him. My advice-stay off of Trip Advisor, it will drive you crazy!!! That's what i'm doing.

Hope this helps.

Kim

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
