I will admit that my stress level is EXTREMELY high right now for reasons that have nothing to do with my wedding (other than effecting my budget) but I am in general not a laid back person and planning and organizing is one of my favorite things to do ( I know, I'm a loser smile116.gif) but...its true. As my name suggests I was "reluctant" to do a DW in the first place, it was my FI's idea, so letting go is still tough. My invites are done, people are booking, and those that aren't are still wasting energy trying to talk us out of a DW, so I guess I just want to throw myself into planning to take my mind off all the crap going on. Make sense?
Vague answers are common... I just think it has more to do with English being their second language. I haven't emailed them in Spanish, but another bride did and said she got faster and more detailed responses...

Hi Girls,

What I am pretty confused about is when we have to put $ down, and how much that needs to be. My fiance and I are pretty much paying for the whole thing ourselves, and we have NOTHING saved yet!!! I think we could have about 70-80 guests, and I am a little worried about how much it could end up costing!

Also, does anyone know if we HAVE to stay in a Honeymoon suite in order to have one of the wedding packages? Ideally we'd love to, but in order to save some $, we'd like to have the option of staying in a cheaper room.

Thanks Girls for ALL the helpful info!!!!

There is a minimum requirement of stay (7 nights in the preferred category of honeymoon OR at least 5 rooms for 3 nights) for the free package. If you want another of the packages you just pay whatever the price is listed.

The deposit is $100 for the free package and $500 for the other two packages. Jacy told me that they are not requesting any deposits until the resort is opened.

70-80 people is a lot! The two packages that you pay for are only for up to 20 people. You would probably have to pay for extra chairs for the ceremony and then the reception dinner if you choose to have one and the cocktail hour. The cheapest dinner is about $20ish per person I believe.

I know, 70-80 is a lot of people...way more than what we were expecting would come. That's still just our rough estimate, but already 25 people rsvpd yes, and we still have another 1.5 years to go, and there are some that have not rsvp'd that we know are defitnely coming!! Uh oh!! haha...

I have decided to post all of my questions to Jacy/Natalia along the way...hope this helps. Here is an email I just got back from Jacy (her responses are in quotes):

PA gazebo can only fit 50 chairs, but we very well may have 70-80 people attending...what would we do in this case?

"WE OFFER THE BEACH OR OUR GAZEBO"
I just heard that PA is requiring a wedding deposit as a new policy for all Dreams Resorts, can you explain?

"$100.00 or $500.00 deposit is required to hold and confirm the wedding date. This deposit will be applied to the total cost of the package. If the couple receives this package complimentary, the deposit will be applied towards any upgrades that the couple adds on. If the couple does not purchase any additional amenities for the wedding itself, this credit may be applied to charges upon check out (phone charges, spa treatments, logo shop purchases, etc.). If for any reason this credit is not used in full, the remaining balance will be refunded at check-out."
The woman with Apple said there is only 1 honeymoon oceanview and 1 honeymoon marina view, so we would need to lock in one of those rooms ASAP if we want to have a honeymoon room...is this true?? And do we HAVE to stay in a honeymoon room if we are to have our wedding at your resort?

"If you want to get the free wedding package this is what you have to reserve, or just buy any of the other packages and stay in the room category you want."

The woman at Apple also gave me rates for 2010, but these rates are not up on your website yet...will the rates that she gave me be accurate?

"Please contact our sales department for rate´s information"

My niece is trying to decide where she wants to have her reception. Are the 2 restaurant locations, El Patio and Oceana? She also mentioned something about the adult pool area. I saw in some pictures an area near the lagoon and they had set up a table there. Is that an area where you can have a reception? It might have been near the massage hut - it was kinda hard to tell from the photo, which may have been an old Sunscape picture. It's only going to be about 35 people.

If she has it one of the restaurants, will it be private or will there be others dining there?

No idea about the lagoon area, but I'm sure its possible. If you do it in the restaurant, there will be other diners there unless you pay for a private event.

I received another reply from Jacy. She said, "The point is that we can not use a photographer from the area different that the one the union send us, unless he or she stays as guest in our resort." I responded to clarify the bolded part. My photographer will be staying at the resort 1 night, so Jacy said there is no problem.

Jacy told me that if you have your reception at one of the restaurants, everyone will be sitting at different tables because they don't take group reservations. I think I read somewhere that they can seat 8 at a table max.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
