@@awright...did you use the hair and makeup option in your package? I read some not so great reviews, but that was a couple years ago. If you used them, were they good? Did they do exactly what you wanted?

I'm tossing the idea of maybe getting a vendor to come and do it. Or take lessons at home, so I can do it myself.

Your review made me so happy! I'm so glad your wedding was everything you had hoped for.  Maybe I'm dumb, but it seems like that photo slideshow is a random mix of many brides, do you have your direct slideshow?  If you have pics, I'D LOVE to see those as well :)

Congrats, Mrs!

Here is my link! Not sure how I messed that up! The photographer was seriously amazing & I'm so happy we went with him.

Karen84, I did use hair and makeup in my package. They were so wonderful as well! I gave them a few pictures of hair I liked & she did exactly what I asked. It also held up well in the heat. I didn't offer any suggestions for makeup, and she just started on in, so I figured she knew what she was doing-and she did! It looked very natural, but pretty for the ceremony & it also was done well for the heat! They let all the girls come into the spa (That weren't getting their hair done there) to watch & brought us all champagne. It was a great experience. The spa was also on the bottom floor so was nice & cool while we got ready. I would highly recommend! A bonus is that it's part of the package!

@@BreMarie I haven't gotten my professional pics back yet (used Elizabeth Medina - www.elizabethmedina.com - she's UNBELIEVABLE and worth every penny) but i should get them back this week at some point.

A couple of points that I see being asked around:

- i did not do a wedding block. yes, the hotel is small, but a wedding block means YOU putting down money for rooms that people may or may not book. for me, our wedding was a decent size, but i didn't want to put down the money if i wasn't 100% sure that everyone would book by a certain time. also, many of our friends used their own preferred travel agent or method of booking. bottom line, its a small hotel, and you dont need to all be on the same floor when it's likely you'll run into everyone during the day anyway

- i didnt use the hair/make up services. for hair, i wish i did. i jsut read too many bad reviews, but then lately, i have been seeing good reviews. my hair usually can withstand humidity, but this time, it completely didn't work. but hey, you win some you lose some!

make up, i did myself, and was extremely pleased! had a few lessons before the trip, which turned out great for my rehearsal dinner and honeymoon :)

- jacki is beyond amazing. she's the reason why we booked at dreams puerto aventuras, and i have zero regrets. she's on top of her game, and she knows you as if she's known you and your family for years. its unbelievable.

- flowers. good lord. my flowers came out beyond my wildest dreams. i sent jacki a picture i found of a bouquet that was totally my style (luckily, my inlaws are florists, so they named every flower in the bouquet to help jacki wtih the order and pricing). she admitted she substituted a few expensive flowers for something very similar, to keep our price down. they came out beyond my wildest dreams. (shhh, dont even think my inlaws can design a bouquet THAT amazing!).

- book the in-resort dj. we decided to go with audiocancun.com because they are slightly cheaper. ruined the reception. the introduction of the bridal party was completely ruined (mispronunciations, despite sending them details on how to say names; introducing the wrong people/speeding up the intros; not letting our bridal party dance into the reception). the music we requested was hardly played, and they had the worst karaoke set up. it was utterly embarrassing and will never ever recommend them. heard so many great things about their in house services - DONT book anyone else.

if anyone has any specific questions, let me know! overall, best day ever. i miss it.

I noticed you said that you didn't book a room block... without the room block do you still get the "book 5 rooms get a 6th room free" deal that Dreams offers?

  • 2 weeks later...

Did you guys book with a travel agent who dealt with sunwing? I think we are getting ripped off! We have been told that after the 16th room we get the 17th free. Everywhere I read or hear, most people get book 11 passengers and get the 12th free. Or like yours book 5 room and get the 6th free.

there was nothing about a 17th room free.. that's actually pretty ridiculous.  On Dream Resort's websites it says right on there that it's book 5 get the 6th free.  Keep in mind, the free room is the lowest room booked as a credit.  So if one of your guests only stays 3 nights in the cheapest room, that's the credit you get to use towards your room.

@@BreMarie...thanks for the info. I just sent my TA the details to look into. We thought the whole 16 rooms was absolutely ridiculous too! We may also run into the issue of having our 51st person paying a significantly higher rate than the first 50. I'm crossing my fingers we stay under 50 people.

My only suggestion to future brides is use a travel company...not friends who are TAs. Me and my fiancé feel like we're not getting the best service like we would with a company :(

That's very unfortunate :(  I have worked with the same travel agent every time I've travelled, and I felt like I should go to her for loyalty purposes, probably much like you went to your friends for the same reason.  THey seriously specialize in this stuff!  Every email I've gotten has been professional.  I went to them with the venue basically already picked because I'm a Dreams fan.. so she gathered the quotes and the specials for me and sent me a very professional brochure like quote.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
